Need to spend about another week labeling stuff. Chuck Uh-oh, more affliction. Are you a Marks-A-Lot or Label Maker guy? I'm on team DYMO myself. I am still on the fence. I notice that a bunch of the slabs from old collections had tape/stickers with ink pen writing that are no longer legible. I really don't like sharpie marker chicken scratch writing on them either. The label maker makes sense but I would need to be certain that the label would not fall off over time rendering the project useless. I suppose any label is better then no label but if I am taking the time I might as well make an educated choice. Chuck

Chuck I saw slabs at my nearest actual retail rock shop marked in a way I had never seen. The painted a small window of white exterior paint on a corner of the slabs. Then when paint is dry, they sharpie the price on the paint. Easily legible. Doesn't stain the stone. Randy - It seems OCD is spreading to Kentucky? Hey! Do you guys alphabetize your soups and cereals? ETA: (I dated alphabetized pantry lady, what an experience that was..... ) At least she had a small clothes dryer in her bathroom so a warm towel was waiting outside the shower when needed! Decadence defined...

LOL, I took a little break about 14 years ago to get organized. Didn't work. Still organizing. It was some of the pictures I have seen here on RTH that made me realize how out of control this can get. Trying to stay ahead of it as long as possible. Need to spend about another week labeling stuff. Chuck Realized I had a problem when the mountain of flat rate boxes in the living room started to collapse under their own weight. Went out & bought one of those steel 20' shipping containers. Little by little the boxes are getting sorted, retaped & labeled. Slowly the shipping container is filling up. With a little luck my wife may even have room to put up her Christmas tree this year. Now if only Mel & a few others would quit tempting me with boxes of rocks that I just can't resist.

Randy - It seems OCD is spreading to Kentucky? @shotgunner, I wouldn't say OCD. No rituals, compulsive or repitetive behaviors. Maybe fastidious, diligent, or just plain anal. Can't stand clutter and disorganization. Little things bother me and keep me busy, never sit still. Time left on the microwave timer. TV/light left on in other room. That piece of dog kibble over there on the floor, etc. I sit down only to pop right back up. And I never sleep, maybe a few hours here and there. Instead, I like mindless work to sort of run in idle. Like tumbling rocks, cleaning out barrels and such. ChicagoDave I've seen your workspace too. Any of this familiar?

I prefer things be the same and ordered. But, I am easily defeated when it comes to keeping it that way. Same for the rock shop and table... I can make a 30-06 cartridge that will dot a gnats eye at 100 yards, over and over again. But my reloading bench? 'nuf said. Truthfully, if you can stand it, I have a nice bottle of Blantons with your name on it. Now, I have to go feed Hobo the Wonderdog. No stray kibbles in his world....

Strangely, @shotgunner, dirt and dust don't bother me, just the clutter. And other people's messes don't bother me. Just my space.

Garage Rocker - You lost me on the microwave timer. Yeah, that's a little anal.
Chuck, I always greatly admire your set up. It has to be great for production. I am not even close to being so organized. I have a small place, so everything is squeezed together which makes everything a pain to get at. But, it also means everything has to go back in it's place.

Nothin' wrong with NASCAR, it requires nearly the preparation you have put in your shop space; we are impressed, we as in my wife and I. captbob

That is what a workshop should look like. I have no idea how people can handle a place where everything is just thrown in a random, open spot. Good work!

I was out at deer camp, so I missed this. That's an impressive set up. I really like the Petoskey stone display. Where did you get those beauties? That's a bunch of pudding stone slabs too. Wow!

What a good place to work!! I do the same thing periodically. Everything I do creates a mess, so I have to clean it up so I make the next mess!
Looks like you can find whatever right away, too. A big plus. Love all the clear workspace.

I love the neat. I am full of admiration! Also full of an urge to show hubby, but I suspect he would be irritated rather than inspired.... How many people have a bin labeled "Fordite"? Your set-up totally rocks!

Wow that looks like metal, not paint. Hard to believe you get it to go from that to your wonderful pendants!
