Looks like free accounts will be limited to 1000 photos/videos. Pull quote: *Free members with more than 1,000 photos or videos uploaded to Flickr have until Tuesday, January 8, 2019, to upgrade to Pro or download content over the limit. After January 8, 2019, members over the limit will no longer be able to upload new photos to Flickr. After February 5, 2019, free accounts that contain over 1,000 photos or videos will have content actively deleted -- starting from oldest to newest date uploaded -- to meet the new limit. If you are a free member with more than 1,000 photos or videos, you will have ample time to upgrade to Pro (for 30% off your first year) or download your photos and videos.* Read more about this decision. Annual plans are billed based on $2.99/month in a lump sum for the year. Monthly plans are $5.99/month www.flickr.com/lookingahead

I figured this was coming, but have not had time to download about 1600 photos. Thankfully, my hard drive has plenty of space for them. The cataloging is going to be a nightmare.
I plan on leaving only about 500 on Flickr, the most recent ones. Know of several on RTH who use Flickr, so this may be another PB experience of having broken links on older threads. Even those less than a year old.

Well, that was bound to happen...

Can we be proactive here instead of picking up the pieces after the PB fiasco? Is there an easy way to transfer Albums from Flickr to the current RTH photo host?

Another reason I plan on using my own website for my photos. I am under their limit and do not use it anymore.

35-40 annually? Sure no problem. Esp since you don’t have to hastle shuffling photos around.

Another reason I plan on using my own website for my photos. I am under their limit and do not use it anymore. I've been considering adding another web host myself, just for photos. It is cheaper to do that than what these photo sites are charging. On the other hand, it doesn't do much more for a discussion forum such as this, where the images may still disappear over time (people may drop either their photo hosting site subscription or their web host due to lack of continued interest, to save space, finances, death or disability, etc.). Subscription photo hosts like Flickr or having our own web sites both eventually would result in blank squares where photos should be. Some of the threads with photos here have continued to be useful references, long after the people posting the pictures have dropped out. Will Cloudinary eventually disappear or change the terms? Who knows? I wish Proboards and similar software providers would offer their own solutions to archiving photos. I also wondered at Flickr's allowing 1000 photos OR videos - very odd, since videos consume a lot more bandwidth than still photos.

Exactly. Plus the size of all photos are different. It used to be 1 TB of space allowed. My 2200 photos took up less than 1% of the 1 TB.

My problem with Flickr is even this far after the change they are still married to Yahoo whom I absolutely despise and detest. I lost my original Flickr login because I got locked out of my Yahoo account (long story). I'm patiently waiting until Flickr makes a clean break from Yahoo then I'm going to contact them and ask to see if they can help me restore my original account. Can we be proactive here instead of picking up the pieces after the PB fiasco? Is there an easy way to transfer Albums from Flickr to the current RTH photo host? I do not know to be honest with you. I would contact Cloudinary direct and ask if there is a way to mass import your photos from Flickr.

Seems like anything associated with Yahoo is a mess I want to avoid. I have same problem, Tommy. Can’t get into Flickr. I just use it to post photos here. Haven’t figured out Cloudinary yet, but will eventually. I keep all my photos on my computer. Keep those with a transient use on iPhone. Periodically delete photos to keep numbers down.

I don't have that many on there, but I had better figure out the one for the website. Eventually they will change the rules/charges for that also. The big wonder was so many companies have done it for free and spoiled us. There are costs for them involved so it was good while it lasted.

Testing amazonphotos link for hosting. If you have a prime account you can basically have unlimited photo hosting. Let's see: Tank shot - direct link - click me
edit - looks like hosting and direct linking work but actually getting the picture to view in the post? Tommy

I can get a photo URL but I can't generate a BB code from amazon because that specific link is FlickR only it seems.
