These are my "feathered" friends from the Aviary section of my Zoo. Hope you enjoy. Cheers, johnw The nice thing about these guys you don't have to clean up after em" Cheers, Johnw Errr, I am very sorry, but it seems as I screwed up big time in my presentation of my feathered friends. When I was putting them back in their zoo quarters I heard a loud voice from the mammal section that said: "Hey" "I am a Penguin and classified as a bird, not a mammal or fish, so give me some respect and put me with the birds." So here goes, he gets star billing on the number of images. Clearly this little guy was a bit upset. Can you see me now?............. I am a bird, not a fish, I am a Penguin. I don't even want to look at you. I apologized and put them all together, so we are now friends again. johnw I am really in big trouble now, apparently the word got out and some big ducks and some of their friends flew in and are expecting an exclusive photo op. I promised I would post images of them tomorrow. johnw

Darling! Did you carve them? Hi Pat, No, I am sorry to say I did not carve them they were carved by some folks I met in Singapore, I saw em' and could not resist, so bought several. This was about thirty years ago. The only reason I am showing them is I saw somebody else was selling their collection. So I decided to share my Zoo collection with the members of RTH. Hope this is not an issue. I conclude rock carving pictures could be shared even if the person did not carve the original pieces. From my perspective in this instance, it's the enjoyment of the seeing the carvings as opposed to the discussions of the manufacturing techniques involved to create them. If I am in error please advise and I will delete them. Thanks. johnw

I thought I was in love with the ducks until Mr. Penguin came along Those are fantastic alikat218, Thank you for saying that, but if you really liked Mr. Penguin you're gonna love the little guys from the Rodent Section..........err, that's after I correct my error and do a special on the big ducks. Boy am I in trouble, there was almost an uprising at the Zoo but the rhinos, hippos horses and bears came to my defense and things settled down. It was agreed that if all the critters at the Zoo get to pose for their picture only then would they let me retain the title of Zookeeper. Cheers, johnw

Follow up to my feathered friends post. After being criticized for leaving these ducks out of the photo op, here they are: The big honkers at the back were the trouble makers and want special images taken, the others just followed their lead. But the lapis duck clearly had attitude and wanted a close up.
How do I look? These next images are of the two residents in the Rodent Section of the Zoo being a Field Mouse and a Door Mouse. Here is the Field Mouse. All this guy does is eat. Here is the Door Mouse. He is really proud of his tail. Best Friends Forever. These next images are of my only resident in the Aquarium Section of the Zoo. A Big Garupa. That's it folks............. The residents of the Mammal Section of the Zoo will follow over the next week or so. Cheers, johnw

Wow!!! Love the smaller duck, the field mouse and that Garupa. An opal fish??? I appreciate how some of the opal matrix was utilized for the design. If I had a zoo like yours I would never get anything done. Just spend hours with each member. Cannot wait for the mammals to appear.

The mice are adorable! What material is the fish? Hi,alikat218, yep, they are cute, those guys joined the Zoo in 1993. The fish material is an opal matrix. Don' know what material the eyes are, never found out. I was just jazzed about finding an opal fish and the skill level of the carvers who used the matrix as part of the fish. Cheers, johnw

This is the only time I have ever shown anyone my Zoo collection in a public forum. Garage Rocker said something that I really found heartwarming when he said, "Glad you have found a home on RTH," so I decided to share the Zoo with my " extended family" members. Cheers, johnw Follow up: The smaller duck heard what you said and demanded a special photo op, so here you are: He said this was his best side.

Hello again, yes, I was stationed in Asia over twenty-five years and spent most of my time in China but moved around the Pacific Rim countries when the need arose. The birds came from Singapore, the Mice and Mr. Penguin, being very special, came from France, all the rest of the Zoo came from the lapidary and antique shops in Shanghai and the outlying Provinces in China. Cheers, johnw
