Well poop. I think the motor on my BRAND NEW Lot-O is toast. Sitting here watching TV and suddenly a loud ugly noise from the garage followed by silence where a tumbler should be. I go out there and the motor is frozen and buzzing and won't restart after unplugging and plugging back a few times.
I'll post more tomorrow but I have this sinking feeling...

I hope not, was thinking about getting one after reading so many great things about them and their customer service here. The only reason I went with the Thumler's UV-10 is for capacity and it was still a close call. Al

Yeah this is a real drag - second load - a little over a week total run time on a brand new unit. I have the worst luck with stuff like this I guess. I always think it's something I did wrong but I can't imagine what it could be.

Maybe they will replace the motor if you call The people you bought it from most tools have a warranty

I always think it's something I did wrong but I can't imagine what it could be. Sorry to see that happened. If I were you, I'd go directly to the manufacturer for a warranty claim. Contact info for Belt, Inc., is 507-451-2254. I can't recall for sure, but I'm somehow thinking the warranty on the motor is only 90 days. If you're up against that bubble, don't forget to explain that you were in the middle of a move and only recently got to use it. Can't say it will work, but it can't hurt.

That's really a bummer. Hope they take care of you.
Just curious if they changed motor manufactures? I have three units all built several years apart and all three use a AO Smith Model JB1P107N Motor. If they are still using that motor then I would not blame it on Belt cheapening the build. I think AO smith did sell there electric motor division to century awhile ago though. Rockshed sells replacement motors so I wonder what brand and model number he sells.

Thanks Dave for the help with the phone number - I wasn't sure where to start on looking that up. I bought it as new on Ebay on 12/11/18 so no matter what way I slice it I'm past the 90 days. Hopefully as you said once they hear my story they will do the right thing about it.

I just noticed this note on the Rock Shed's Lot-O page... maybe trouble was afoot with this motor?

Not exactly my style usually but how many of those machines have been bought because of the posts on this forum?!

I just noticed this note on the Rock Shed's Lot-O page... maybe trouble was afoot with this motor? Pretty sure that note has been on that listing for a bunch of years and is in reference to motors that were used way back when loto's first came out. I am sure shawn at the Rockshed will know when they switched from AO smith to Fasco. Fasco is not a bad brand though. That brand is really popular in fractional HP motors. Chuck

Yeah, that ball bearing notice has been there at least since I bought my Lot-O about seven years ago. I have an A/O Smith motor too.

I was just a split second close to buying one earlier this week. So I really appreciate the heads up. I am starting to see some really nice results from the MT-4 now, so I am holding off pulling the trigger on a new lott-o for now. I still appreciate all the input above.
I have Fasco motors on all of my Lortone rotary tumblers. I hope they are reliable for a while at least. Hmm.

"Hello Lot-O customer service, my name is Tommy and I run the Rock Tumbling Hobby Forum........" Not exactly my style usually but how many of those machines have been bought because of the posts on this forum?! Al That's a solid idea but I would only do that if they gave me a bunch of crap back on my inquiry about extending the warranty on the motor. I have left a message yesterday so we'll see when they get back to me. My general approach would be to wait first and see if they take care of the problem then from a position of gratitude let them know that on our public forum this will lead to a solid statement about the brand and how much they care about quality and customer service. I can tell from this thread that there already exists a bit of speculation about the quality and if the machine is still as solid as it once was. Just the fact that you guys know the motor brand names is interesting to me.

Any updates? I’ve considered getting one but there seems to be an upturn in issues with these.

Hi, it took a couple of calls but once I got a person on the line (didnt catch her name sorry) and explained the situation she was super friendly and asked me to send just the bad motor in and they will replace it. Dropped it in the mail yesterday. $7 in freight (padded flat rate envelope) beats the heck out of having to pay for a nee motor so I'm super happy so far.
