jamesp Low tide and eyewall replacement had to save a few. The hot gulf water must be adding vapor mass and therefore momentum to the spinning air Rich. Normally a storm like that would have spun down to a 40 to 60mph tropical storm immediately after landfall. Instead it stayed a class 1 hurricane for over 300 miles of land travel. Michael and Ian did the same thing. And all 3 spun up even faster once they hit hotter shallower water just before landfall. The tree damage was actually much worse 100 miles inland. Good thing it was not a Katrina sized storm.

Sounds like if you lived in Oklahoma jamesp , you'd be chasing tornadoes! That might not turn out so well Patty
We have gotten our fair share of tornadoes right here in south Atlanta Patty. Jonesboro is a suburb town of Atlanta. For some reason it attracts tornadoes. I worked a job in Jonesboro for 12 years, one time the Canadian corporate bosses were visiting eating dinner at a restaurant in Jonesboro. The roof got sucked away during their dinner. Never seen 5 men in suit and tie so frightened. Some of them committed to never visit again. You guys need to respect these new breeds of hurricanes even if you live well inland.

jamesp I'm guessing you didn't have a hurricane party. You must be getting old- now all you want to do is chase the eye! LOL! Lol, yes I am and that will be the last eye chase for this old man. Better in an armored and heavy vehicle !

The eye of Hurricane Alicia passed over my house in Aug 1983. Hobby Airport, about 6 miles from the house recorded winds up to 90 mph with higher wind gusts. It was an eerie experience going outside to survey the initial damage, relatively calm with some blue skies. After about 6 or 7 minutes it all stated up again with winds in opposite direction. I had just re-roofed the house myself 2 to 3 weeks earlier and didn't lose a shingle. Did lose power when a large pecan limb took out the service drop the meter and my breaker panel. It took them just over a week to restore. I never knew just how far big limbs and trees could bend before they broke. Afterwards my neighbor and I went around to several of the older folks living on our street to make sure they were alright. One of these was a survivor of the Bataan Death March and subsequent 3 year POW ordeal. He was ok and not shaken up at all, thank goodness as he had already served his time in hell.

After Hurricane Michael & seeing all the damage it did to the whole area we live in, I'll never think of a hurricane as anything less than serious. 5 years later & there are still plenty of houses with blue tarps on them, people with no insurance or no payout. We lost power for 10 days, and of course no well water, but I've always felt almost guilty that the storm turned JUST before it hit us. Just 5 miles away the damage was horrific.
NO- I'm not going to play in or photograph any storms any time soon.

Here's a couple pics I snapped in the last couple of days. Took this pic Thursday morning: Blue isn't a fan of thunderstorms. He paused on the way out the door...for quite awhile! So...I laughed my tail off at this one. Someone decided to change the radio inside the store to a Christian rock station. So...of course there's a Praying Mantis wanting to get inside! LOL

Thunder69 - I have had that yummy pet wood you gave me decorating the sitting area out on the front porch. I believe your brother was with you and you guys had been in Dakota or Montana. Many visitors have admired it as it was so real looking and well preserved. James that wood came from an excursion we did in Wyoming..I wanted to go hunt for more but time ran out this time around.

So, WHAT IN THE DRIPPING CLOUD WEATHER PATTERN SUNSET???16Sep2023 sunset I'm like WTH, did F35's from Luke get shot down? But then they grew... A bird photobombed this one Then as the horizon moved up (Sun doesn't go down) A 4th one sprouted. Aerial microbursts? Anyone? Of course, the latest tame Feral, "Fluffy", says how about you put away that camera and bring me some food.

Hope you fed the cat.

Just some unframed examples from my collection of what a bifurcated arrowhead point looks like. Some time back I described the base when turned up as resembling Mickey Mouse ears. Heigh-ho, heigh-ho.
