Time to wander out into the orchard and pay homage to the sentinels of antiquity. Wife thinks I'm nuts. You can keep the snow!! Your wife may be right!! Merry Christmas!

They are a bit old to help your trees grow! Gosh, and here I thought I could grow petrified wood using petrified manure for fertilizer!

From Knoji Guides - How Coprolite Helped Win the First World War
What I don't understand is, fossilized coprolites would no longer contain phosphates, right? During fossilization, their original structures and content would be silicified, agatized, opalized, etc. Right?
They could use the phosphates in un-fossilized coprolites. I don't think quartz would be effective as a fertilizer.

Very interesting, Jean. When I think of "fossilized" I think silica replacement but maybe I should adjust my thinking that something does not need silica in order to be "fossilized." 1dave what do you know about this?

Calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, etc. go into solution and can "soft" fossilize.

Thanks for posting these pics! I know you had posted them somewhere before (without the white stuff!) and I couldn't find them. I was telling my wife about your "bundles" and was able to show her these pics. If I keep picking up prairie agates at the rate I am while out looking for Fairburn Agates, I might have to convince her this would look good along our back fence holding all the excess prairie agates!

jasoninsd lately I've been telling folks who inquire what they are that they are "seismic tuners" designed to mitigate earthquake damage to my house nearby.

If they were in my yard, I'd be telling my neighbors they were just part of a shi@#y rock wall I was building... which would kinda be true. And because they know I'm a little outside the box, they'd probably squint their eyes while staring between me and the "rocks" like some mental game of tennis was going on and would be afraid to ask any more questions. LOL

Especially when people say why are you collecting the rocks... what are you going to do with them??? 😬😬

Splatnoun: splat; plural noun: splats a sound of something soft and wet or heavy striking a surface. Yes indeed. I often find specimens with flat bottoms where it appears they splatted on the ground. I consider this to be another evidence they are coprolites instead of mere agate nodules as a few folks claim. Additionally the "top" of many of them exhibit an impact or collapsing pattern that reminds me of crater patterns. I'll have to photograph some examples and post them on here.

Here's some coprolites with Christmas colors. Mostly reds and greens.
