Fossil fish found in Brenda jasper on RTH field trip to Brenda (AZ) in 2014. No idea on type of fish, and this will remain a specimen.

This has turned into a really neat thread. Seeing lots of neat things i'm now wishing were in my collection. Lots of really cool things you guys/gals are posting. I'll have to dig deep into my collection and pull out some other rare material I have, so I can share it with all of you.

I "found" these amazing pyrite ammonite casts from Germany at Quartzsite about 20 years ago. A German seller had a small booth with a number of them for sale. I don't know how rare they are but they're among my favorite cabinet specimen. They occur in limestone and expert diggers are able to chip them open, revealing ancient ammonite "molds" containing complete ammonite pseudomorphs. The creatures have been totally replaced by pyrite and when wire-brushed show off an attractive gold-ish color. Every detail of the originals has been preserved. That's a dime for size reference in case you can' tell.

Rick gemfeller, have you dug these out from your move yet? I would love to see them in person next time I come over!

These These are a few of my really nice limb casts. The green ones specifically are from hampton buttes. These are extremely rare to come across (at hampton butte), especially this grade. This is probably some of the rarest wood I've have had the opportunity to dig. Swartz canyon oak.

No one is going to beat Diane though. Her fish is once in a lifetime. I found what may be a thousand dollar chunk of gem silica. Diane was with. I also found a blue MT agate and 2 fairburnes in the general area of Glendive. Mark, did Diane find a fish, too? I think you may be thinking of the one I found at Brenda. Diane drocknut (or was it Jim Wampidy? Lol) found a nice piece of that pretty blue gem silica stuff, also at Brenda. Was going to post some pics of the fossil fish, will try to get it tomorrow. Was trying to think of anything else that fits the bill! I did not find a fish. Yes, it was me who found that piece of gem silica in Brenda Area (although Jim claimed it was his because I found it in the road when I was getting ready to take a picture for Jim of him sitting at the base of a cactus). Mine was pretty but not that big or clear. I don't really remember seeing a thousand dollar chunk of gem silica anywhere.

I know it was you who found it. As for the $1000 piece of GS, I think that is a totally unrelated thing Mark K spoke of, not a value of the rock you found. As one gets older, stories tend to get jumbled, and we misremember things.

Remember when we went to that one spot and I blew the rock apart? One of the chunks has a seam that goes through and is 1/2 inch thick and about 8 inches in any direction wide.
Someone totally mined that spot out by the way. Chunks of stone the size of cars gone and I can't find any evidence of how they did it. It is just gone.

I love seeing the finds of others here. Whether found at a shop, garage sale, online, or in the field.

That is absolutely beautiful material. The only time I ever see it finished is in the 49ermineral shop. Is it rare or is it just unknown. It needs a "new" name.
