Thread to share your rarest material ever found. Here's some that i've never shared with others (meaning no one else but myself has any), and have no intentions putting it into circulation. I always remember Quant pressing my grandfather for the location once he found out what we had haha. There wasn't a large amount produced out of the deposit. Roughly 35-40 lbs. However based on locality, color and pure uniqueness, I deem it my rarest material found to date. Stumbled upon this with my grandfather years ago. When under natural light its almost black. However when lit in bright light, it turns a vibrant blue. In the rough, you would think it was a piece of black coal thats how dark it is.

Oooooo..... me like. The only rarities I've ever found were on eBay. But, I have found some that were so rare that I wish I had never let it go. Here's a one off that was amazing. No idea where it is from other than the US. Very vivid color.

That's a hard question. What may be "rare" to one isn't to another. I have some in my stash that is not be be touched just for the fact I may never get another. Like a small slab of Wingate I found for $1, a face polished hunk of green Mary Ellen, a nice big juicy rough of Lucin, a huge piece of Pipestone and so on

Here are a few of my favorites that I personally hounded. Here is some Az Tigilites (aka. Fawn stone)that beefjello and I hounded several years back. Here is a totally different piece from the same location. Here is a cool tube agate I found in Burro Creek, very rare find. Made a sphere from one of the pieces. Then there is the Az Star Burst Obsidian. Can no longer collect since on military proving grounds.

For you limb cast fans. While limb cast isn't rare yet (its getting very VERY scarce to collect however), here is something that isn't very commonly found in limb cast. Dug this roughly 20 years back at congolton hollow. Slab of limb with iris inclusion.

I just posted this the other day in its own thread. And I only "found" it in the sense that I cut it. But purple Montana moss agate seems to be pretty rare.

AzRockGeek I really love that second one. It's like a cross between fawn stone and mushroom jasper.

@herber Maybe it's just me, but I can't see your first two photos, although I would like to.

That is freaking rad. Nice find. It reminds me a bit of purple amethyst sage. Yes. Looks a whole lot like amy sage but in a hard rinded nodule form. I will cab a slice soon. If it polishes like a Montana agate, should make some nice cabs. Amy sage takes a good shine, but nothing beats a Montana agate if you want a mirror polish.

Tim - AzRockGeek I also can't see the first two photos. It's strange because all of the photos in the post are on the same host, some work and some don't. We've seen it before that Google images does not play nice with the forum.

Probably not the rarest rock in the world but by far my favorite memory of collecting a cool rock that shouldn't have been where it was. I still have the 68 lb rock, uncut and probably will stay that way - even if I had a saw big enough lol. The rock is here - never figured out what exactly to call it. I found it by dumb luck - sat down to rest on an outcrop near the vehicles and there it was sticking out of the ground. Probably a hundred thousand rockhounds have walked by that exact spot in the N.Cadys and never saw it. The story is here: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/post/709548/thread
