Thank you, rockjunquie, MsAli, holajonathan and jasperfanatic! The stone just lent itself perfectly to this particular theme. I have to thank jasoninsd for coming up with it. It's pretty likely that I would never have cut that stone without a kick in the pants. Also, it helped a little that it was sitting on the window sill behind my Genie and I knocked it when I was trying to shut the curtain and it broke into a couple of pieces a while ago.

I was actually thinking of using the slab in my photo for this months competition. That's why I marked the circle. Mine had a boring edge compared to yours, however. I don't think there is ever any color in the Stinking Water plume agates, but as far as pure white plumes go, they are among the finest. Usually more solid than GPP too, in my experience.

Here is another slab of the same stuff that I didn't knock off the window sill and break. I'm going to change the name on my entry.

Here is another slab of the same stuff that I didn't knock off the window sill and break. I'm going to change the name on my entry. I am 99.9% sure that is Stinking Water plume. I've got a box full of the stuff, and it looks identical to your photo. Ground or cut very thin, that stuff makes about as fine of a plume doublet as you will ever see. Black backing is great, but it's clear enough that if you get it real thin, you can actually see colored backing through it as well. I've got two work-in-progress doublets from the material. One is going to get a black backing, and the other is going to get deep red Mook. I've got the thin slabs cut, I just need to glue them and cab them.

Time is fleeting, so I got cabbing before I run out of month. The theme this month really got my interest. Looks like most of the entries are agate and I understand why. The lesson for me is that the best live edge is if there is something interesting on raw edge. Otherwise, it just looks like a broken cab, rather than an intentional feature. I made 6 cabs last night. 3 were Ocean Jasper and 3 were silver/nickeline. The ocean jasper (ocean picture stone) is supposed to look like a beach with brown sand, blue water and white sky. However, the brown part is way more fragile than the white/blue jasper. Whoops. Only one retains the "sand". Next time, I will stabilize before working. Winter memory was an ice storm a few years ago with a 3 day power outage. My girlfriend and her 2 year old daughter were visiting. My fireplace is upstairs, so I drained the pipes so they wouldn't freeze downstairs. We drank wine, washed with soda water, read books, played board games and ate steaks cooked over wood in the fireplace. Used fireplace ash on the sidewalk and driveway for traction. Learned to keep a couple of full bottles of BBQ propane just in case it happens again. On day 4, a turkey walked into my backyard just before power was restored. Poor turkey's timing was bad, because I had already invited him for supper (nice change of diet after 3 days of beef). Everything worked out ok. We married the next June. I know..."blah, blah, blah .. show me the rocks": Here are the 6 cabs: A couple of possible entries. One is Ocean Jasper and the other Nickeline in calcite: My entry: Silver in Calcite/Dolomite: The rock and the slab:

greig - I think that's a really difficult material to work! I was kind of stuck trying to find a piece that I thought would be a good entry because of exactly what you said...unless it has something really interesting to the edge, it almost looks like it was dropped and broken! Hmmm...so both of us married the person we were snowed in with... LET THAT BE A LESSON TO OTHERS! BE VERY SELECTIVE WHO YOU GET STRANDED WITH! *Note...mine is working out just fine...unless my wife mistakes me for a turkey one of these days soon! LOL

LOL I looked at some of my agate and thought q a few would make a good cab, but needed cutting. It is -19 C outside now and for some reason I didn't want to clean off the table and set up the saw. Amy is now 19 and likes bird hunting, so it seems she learned at an early age. She still likes steak too.

greigThat silver/nickeline material is something else. Your entry is beautiful as well. It proves that there's more than one way to make a cab, and that different materials can be shown off in different ways. Did I ever tell you that watching you and Rob on YouTube were a large part of what got me interested in rocks? The joy that you express when looking at and working with rocks... it was contagious. I live 20 minutes from Ontario, although it's 5 more hours to Port Perry. If I ever make it up your way, will you take me looking for silver? Great winter story, by the way.

Okay, my last day entry. Had a few ideas, some in the video, but decided on something I hadn't cabbed yet. Found some barite pseudomorph nodules in an estate a few months ago, the more spiky structure of the barite is well weathered, but still evident in these, plus the ketchup and mustard that Pat likes so much is there along with some purple agate. The slab/preform one cab slab. The cab The side The story

Rockoonz - Great entry! I loved watching the video! That was a great addition! You had said you didn't want to use cerium for "obvious" reasons...but I'm a little slow on the uptake sometimes! LOL - Were you not wanting to use cerium so it didn't get into the live edge, or was there another reason not to use the cerium?

Thank you. I stared at it for a good while trying to figure the shape. I usually don't use stencils unless I'm going for a super accurate cab. I couldn't really see the shape so just decided to knock down the edges and see if anything broke off. This shape slowly emerged.

LOL - Were you not wanting to use cerium so it didn't get into the live edge, or was there another reason not to use the cerium? Bingo! The edge would trap the cerium for sure, and didn't seem advisable even if my richardsons wheels were unpacked and reassembled.
