We used to rummage through old family dumps behind their family home and the city dump at the southern end of Puget sound. Families tossed old bottles near the creek forever—- until we started digging around. When husband was a kid, they found an old Christmas tree with ornaments still on it. The ornaments were added to their tree which had been strung with popcorn. Nice addition! Wowww! I can’t imagine finding an entire Christmas tree with ornaments 🤣

My dad metal detects and while doing so does search for bottles. I'll have to show him these! So pretty! I’ve thought about getting a metal detector, I think that would be very interesting in a dump.🤣 At some point there was some burning going on because I’ve found big blobs of melted glass and a green medicine bottle melted flat with the lid still attached.

This is a medicine bottle I found when I cut inside a wall with an old pump house. Installing the water heater. Still has the cork, the label and some residue on the inside. It's Dr Kilner's ocean weed heart remedy. According to the little bit I can read on the label it will cure just about anything.

lparsonsLooking forward to seeing how it turns out! Excited for you to find that!! I was very excited too! I actually made a second trip and got more. 🤣 I’m not sure what to do with it though. I know I’ll tumble it. I got a glass cutter to cut the thinner stuff and for the thick stuff I’ll have to use the saw. I’ve been tumbling non stop for a couple years and so I have quite a bit accumulated. The only thing I’ve done with them so far is to admire them, give a few stones away and have made one keychain and a pendant!🤣 I’m thinking about more jewelry material of course, but maybe some wind chimes.

I bet RWA3006 would like it too!

Link Or, if you prefer: mhc.andornot.com/en/permalink/artifact2454 It appears that at least some pharmaceuticals back in the day had colorful, informative cards, like trading cards or baseball cards, used for advertising. Visible on the page linked to. You can read what was on the deteriorated label. Great bottle, BTW. With the internet, searching is easy!

A ton of them still have labels, and they range from around 1930 to the late 19th century (kinda guessing).I like bottles, but none of the residue except in a Listerine bottle.

I've been fortunate enough to find two bottles that said: The Great Dr. Kilmers Swamp Root Kidney, Liver and Bladder Remedy.

Apparently, he made several different types of his snake oil, um, I mean pharmaceutical concoctions. The ocean weed was formulated to help heart issues.

Wow! I had no idea Dr Kilmer had all that stuff. rockpickerforever thanks for the link. I had done a search at one point but had not seen the label reprint. Cool to be able to read everything on there.

rockbrain , I found another page with more excellent information on the good doctor and his cures. www.nps.gov/articles/dr-kilmer-s-medicine-bottle.htmThis from the National Park Service. They had this information on their website because they had a Dr. Kilmer’s Swamp Root Remedy Bottle (Fort Stanwix National Monument Museum Collection FOST 2163). The bottle itself is awesome, here's a description: This bottle was found during archeological excavations at Fort Stanwix in the 1970s. It stands approximately 8 inches tall, 3 inches long, and 2 inches wide and is made of light turquoise colored glass. Its front features the words “THE GREAT DR. KILMER'S SWAMP-ROOT KIDNEY LIVER & BLADDER REMEDY” inside of an embossed image of a kidney. Yes, inside the image of a kidney! You can view a photo of the bottle in question at the above link.
