I’ve been wanting to try to tumble some glass for a while, so I can’t believe I actually stumbled on an old bottle dump without even looking for one. At some point there was some burning involved because some glass has melted into blobs. Hubby and I were walking along a river looking for rocks, (well I was 🤣) and came upon a large area covered with broken glass. Obviously people had been digging for unbroken glassware. But for me, I was happy to find it all broken up since I wouldn’t have the heart to break old glassware just to tumble. 🤣

Were you all "glassy-eyed" when you found it?? That's a fantastic find! I really love those blue and the white pieces!

Pretty cool. I got a couple slivers of amethyst glass I found out in the middle of nowhere rock hunting.

Thank you, manofglass! it will be such a quick process compared to tumbling my normal rock loads. 🤗

At first I was like, omg I can’t believe people have been breaking glass and littering this beautiful spot! Then I started looking at the type of glass. I recognized old blue mason jar glass, brown bleach bottles, medicine bottles etc. I had been to a wedding at that location about 10 years ago, at that time it was a nice grassy area. Since then, it has flooded and the whole area is sandy with stacks of wood and logs everywhere. So evidently the flood uncovered the dump site. So, I’m definitely going back in a few days armed with digging tools and containers 🤣

Pretty cool. I got a couple slivers of amethyst glass I found out in the middle of nowhere rock hunting. I was so excited once I realized it was an old dump quartzilla. I mean, I’ve never been lucky like that. I could see holes where people had been digging and I’m sure they weren’t interested in the broken stuff like me so I doubt I’ll have any competition. 🤣 I did find one tiny blue perfume bottle. I can’t wait to go back!

When I was younger I did some hunting like this around Downtown Spokane when the roads were torn up and made some finds like that. I'm an antique collector (although rocks have taken the lead) as well, so this was really neat to see. Nice finds!

Awesome find!! I'd be excited too, although I'm sure my hubby would playfully roll his eyes at me trying to pick it all up! Lol

Some of the white stuff did come from old zinc canning jar lids. I found some thicker white milk glass looking porcelain chunks that I believe are from vases or figurines. I went back a second time and got more. My 12 pound rotary tumbler is in use right now but my next load will be all glass.🤣

I almost had a conniption until I realized the glass was already broken. Whew, what a relief. I like to collect old bottles and whiskey flasks are my favorites. Medicine bottles too. 🤣🤣🤣 Nice collection! I also collect old glass, my favorite is medicine bottles, so my conscious wouldn’t allow me to break it up in order to tumble it.🤣

I wonder if any of the green pieces are uranium glass? I have no way of knowing. I guess you have to have a black light to see if it’s authentic. 🤗

We used to rummage through old family dumps behind their family home and the city dump at the southern end of Puget sound. Families tossed old bottles near the creek forever—- until we started digging around.
When husband was a kid, they found an old Christmas tree with ornaments still on it. The ornaments were added to their tree which had been strung with popcorn. Nice addition!

My dad metal detects and while doing so does search for bottles. I'll have to show him these! So pretty!
