I would guess that most of it being National Forest doesn’t help in that regard. Are collection permits possible in areas where this is found?

The collection area is in a National Forest, but no permits are required for collection. this is link to national forest where Maury Mountain moss is. or rather a link to where one can purchase a map of Rockhounding sites in that National Forest

That is what the rotating 36 inch flat lap is for!, but on thundereggs and agates if the saw marks are not bad, I go straight to the bull wheel.

No, I did not not, got a bunch of it in a pile of rocks thew wife bought at an estate sale years ago, probably dug in the 70's. been slowly cutting it. had a couple of spheres made out if that came out really good. got one boulder bigger tahn a basketeball laying out by my shop that I should slab someday. If I can still lift it that is!
