Dear RTH family, The long awaited time has come for Bob's heart valve replacement surgery. It's been a long road to get to here, but it will finally happen next week, Wednesday 11/ 9, to be exact. jasoninsd, I told you I'd let you know the date when I knew it. It's been so long, you probably forgot all about it. That's just how the doctors work. We will gladly accept any prayers anyone cares to send. I'm a firm believer in the power of prayer. Will let you all know how it goes.

rockpickerforever Jean...I hadn't forgot about it...I've thought about it every time I've seen a post from you since then. I too believe in the power of prayer...and the power of positive thoughts. I think this should be bumped daily. The more people who see it...the more "good vibes" will be flowing through the airwaves! If everyone who comes into this thread reads this imagine how many more prayers we can be sending out... LORD PLEASE BE WITH BOB DURING HIS TIME OF NEED AS HE PREPARES FOR HIS SURGERY. PLEASE BLESS THE SURGEON AND MEDICAL PERSONELLE WHO WILL ADMINISTER YOUR HEALING FOR BOB. THANK YOU LORD FOR BEING THERE IN OUR TIMES OF NEED...AND IN OUR TIMES THAT WE FORGET OUR NEED FOR YOU. AMEN

AMEN Thank you Jason jasoninsd ! Splendid, thank you in advance for everything that I know you will do, and for everyone else that sends prayers as well. Just can't get enough. Sorry to make you wait so long for the follow up post with an actual date, there were a lot of things to do first, lots of things to get scheduled. There will actually be three doctors present (in addition to the countless other hospital personnel, nurses, anesthesiologist, etc for). His cardiologist/surgeon Dr. Jad Omran , a second cardiologist, Dr. Seemal Mumtaz (she was present when they tried to do this procedure before). She will step in if they need to "crack him open" for any reason. A third doctor will round out the team, Dr. Rayan Hourani. His job will be electrician to install a pacemaker, which will be removed following the surgery. That will be in place in case they have to "Kickstart" his heart during the surgery. I guess one of the riskiest procedure of the surgery is making sure the nerves (think electrical wires) don't get pinched when they position the replacement valve. You may have noticed the names of his doctors. There are lot of Middle Eastern doctors in his health plan, and working out of that hospital (didn't want to say "practicing" there, lol). Both Dr. Omran and Dr. Mumtaz are Pakistani, I believe, we have not yet met Dr. Hourani, but I expect he is, too. Matters not to us, all we care about is their skills! A crack team, I know he is in the best of hands.

Definitely scary, but wished for at the same time. We are all sending our best to both of you.

Thanks, Ashley. I won't turn down prayers offered up for us. We've been waiting for this to happen for so long, and now it is rushing at us! It always seems that way! Can almost take your breath away. Its easy to get overwhelmed and anxious but thats when we have to just relax and trust God!

rockpickerforeverPlease let Bob know that no matter what it's okay for doctors to use four-letter words...unless that word is Oops! I hope the doctors have done some time as stand-up comics...so they leave him in "stitches"! If Bob hears the doctors saying "Tetanus, Typhoid, Measles!", tell him not to worry...they're just calling the shots! If Bob insists on closing his own surgical wound, the doctor will likely say, "Suture self!" If Bob wants to administer the anesthesia himself, the doctor might say, "Knock yourself out!" Love, Jason (Who believes laughter is the best medicine...unless you have diarrhea! )

rockpickerforever Jean - our prayers going up starting now for Bob and for you as you both prepare for the surgery and all the way through Bob's full recovery. I know full well how stressful this is for both of you, but fear not. He will be watching over the both of you and guiding all of the medical staff in their actions to a successful completion. In this I have no doubt. (((Hugs and prayers))).

In these cases when age is the issue I'm always more concerned about the partner who has to do all the managing, organize all the disparate information, really has do the all the necessary stressful things. And I don’t want to be misread Bob is fairly young from what I can tell and has been nailed with shaky health for sometimes. Not sure what to say about that Besides what a tough deal of the cards Anyway Jean stay strong... ya know

My thoughts to you and Bob and best wishes for a successful surgery and speedy recovery! Three family members have gone through similar surgeries, so I know well how stressful these times can be.

Love, Jason (Who believes laughter is the best medicine...unless you have diarrhea! ) Thank you for those, Jason. It could also be hazardous if you laugh and lose your bladder! (Don't have that problem currently, only in danger of leaking when I hit the road doing multiple stops grocery shopping, despite having gone just before I left.) Or cracked ribs, right jamesp ? Jason, you had mentioned a later check in time would be better. Two hours later (7:30 instead of 5:30) this time. Yes! Hallelujah! Thank you, Jesus! Don't believe I 've mentioned this before, but Bob is also anemic. He loses blood in his gut, they don't know where it is leaking from. He is constantly doing labs for his hematologist about every other month, then going in twice, a week apart, for two iron infusions when his numbers crash. He just had the second of the two on Friday, so he is all topped up on iron. If they wait too long to give it (iron poor blood), he feels sluggish. As I mentioned in an earlier post, we've been in a state of extreme anticipation (cue Carly Simon, lol) for several years. They told him the clunking was his calcified aortic valve slamming shut each time his heart beat. Couldn't go on like that forever. Dr. Mumtaz had told us that a new heart valve could get rid of that problem. She said blood flowing through the damaged valve could actually damage the blood cells! Okay, I've been typing long enough for now, more later if I think of anything important to say, lol.
