In these cases when age is the issue I'm always more concerned about the partner who has to do all the managing, organize all the disparate information, really has do the all the necessary stressful things. And I don’t want to be misread Bob is fairly young from what I can tell and has been nailed with shaky health for sometimes. Not sure what to say about that Besides what a tough deal of the cards Anyway Jean stay strong... ya know Thanks, mohs . You have that right about all the work the spouse has to do! Even nurses at the hospital and with his health care provider tell me that he is lucky to have me! I tell them don't I know it. Earlier this year, he had an invasive carcinoma melanoma carved out of his back. With him, it's always something. FYI, he is 67, two years older than me. He has gotten a worse hand dealt to him than me, but still not as bad as others sometimes get. Neither of his parents was very healthy, they both had bad hearts, COPD, etc, and died before they should have. That's the reason we decided not to have children, he didn't want to pass those bad genes on. I will stay strong, Ed. With the good Lord watching over us, this is just a little bump in the road. Until next time...

My thoughts to you and Bob and best wishes for a successful surgery and speedy recovery! Three family members have gone through similar surgeries, so I know well how stressful these times can be. Thank you, brian , thanks for caring. Bob is the one in this household that has medical procedures done to him. Me? Nothing, knock on wood. Good genes (my Dad turned 92 earlier this year) and no accidents like Bob breaking his knee, he also has fused L4-L5 vertebrae in his back. I have fallen off the side of our raised truck once, onto our concrete driveway when we were loading firewood into the bed before heading out to the desert. Just plop, lost my balance and fell. I knew I was going over, so I just accepted it, reached out, and laid out full length on the ground, on my left side. No broken bones, just a small bruise on my left elbow. God was watching over me. Bob didn't see it happen. He was handing me wood, I was there, than I wasn't, he heard me hit the ground - thunk! He was sure I had split my head like a melon, was envisioning a trip to the ER, and kissing the desert trip goodbye. We finished loading, and headed out to the desert. Did I ever tell you I love the desert? ❤️ 🏜

Prayers up Jean. Having gone through that procedure myself I'm extra sympatico.
It sounds like his doctors are planning for a TAVR (Trans Arterial Valve Replacement) since you mention a doctor who'll be on stand-by "in case they have to crack him open." I had a TAVR and it went very smoothly -- and I was much older at the time than Bob...really too old to survive open heart surgery.
Sounds as if you have a talented and competent medical team lined up, and that's the most important thing. Don't worry about the Middle Eastern names. I owe my life to a member of my cardiology team named Mohammed.
I worry about you too. I believe my surgery was harder on my wife than me. Be good to yourself and try not to fret too much. Modern medical procedures have improved to the point they're miraculous in my view. They do amazing stuff almost routinely now.

Modern medical procedures have improved to the point they're miraculous in my view. They do amazing stuff almost routinely now. Thank you for the prayers, Rick gemfeller . We really appreciate them. When they planned the surgery the last time, it was going to be TAVR, but they stopped it before they got started because of an 80% blockage in a heart artery. The doctor wanted Bob on blood thinners for a month before putting in stents. The stents were installed, and he has just been waiting since then, while they continued monitoring his condition, of course. In September, they decided it was time to do it, and here we are. I could be wrong about this, but I think I saw an authorization from the health plan that said it would not be TAVR this time. The last time, we had watched a video online showing the procedure to learn what it is all about. The scary part about it is when they get the new valve in position, then basically push it into place, destroying the old valve. The point of no return! And to think this is all being done by threading it up a vein in his groin! We have no issue with the ethnic makeup of the doctors, just mentioned their names because the medical group employs quite a few Pakistanis and Syrians. I'm sure they are all experts at what they do. I'm not fretting too much, but will be glad when it is done. Bob will feel so much better, too. I am glad that you survived your procedure!

rockpickerforever Jean...I hadn't forgot about it...I've thought about it every time I've seen a post from you since then. I too believe in the power of prayer...and the power of positive thoughts. I think this should be bumped daily. The more people who see it...the more "good vibes" will be flowing through the airwaves! If everyone who comes into this thread reads this imagine how many more prayers we can be sending out... LORD PLEASE BE WITH BOB DURING HIS TIME OF NEED AS HE PREPARES FOR HIS SURGERY. PLEASE BLESS THE SURGEON AND MEDICAL PERSONELLE WHO WILL ADMINISTER YOUR HEALING FOR BOB. THANK YOU LORD FOR BEING THERE IN OUR TIMES OF NEED...AND IN OUR TIMES THAT WE FORGET OUR NEED FOR YOU. AMEN You two are in my thoughts and prayers this morning.

Done. I know that God has empathy for our thoughts and feelings, and often bends His will towards our righteous desires. Sometimes prayers aren't answered as we'd like, but they are always answered, and in a way that eventually turns out in our best interest. Best wishes.

Just fat fingered my reply, lost it, and have to start over. Doh! Thank you for the uplifting, colorful photos. Ed, I have to ask how you were born in two hospitals? Maybe I missed it in your post? I was also born in a Mercy Hospital. It did not get the Scripps name added until much, much later. "Scripps Mercy Hospital is a private Catholic hospital located in San Diego, California. Founded in 1890, it is the oldest hospital in San Diego County and has campuses in Chula Vista and Hillcrest." The hospital is still open for business, although they have slapped the name Scripps in front of it, another health care provider in the area. linkThe timing is right, it must be related to The Sisters of Mercy that started the hospital where your brother Mike was born, mohs . My two older sisters, born one year and two years before me, were also born there. A year and a half after I was born, my next younger, and then later, my subsequent siblings were born at a new hospital, closer to where my family lived at the time - where my Dad still lives there - called Sharp Memorial Hospital. There is no shortage of hospitals or doctors in San Diego. It's also where my son was born, my mom died, and my inlaws died. A lot of hospitals and health care plans in the area have the Sharp name attached to them. Bob's broken knee was surgically repaired at Sharp Chula Vista, when we lived in National City. Bob's valve procedure on Wednesday will be done at Sharp Grossmont Hospital. That is where his doctors and surgeons ply their trade at. Time to stop for lunch, then get Bob's beard trimmed up for Wednesday, lol.

Sorry to hear what you typed got Lost, Uuggh... that aggravating Always on long thoughts too.... mostly History of medicine and those past folks that helped assembled our modern hospitals well…. they don’t get enough credit real people with all the same concerns that study and sacrifice to help others amazing how far we have come especially trauma units ! all to important these days Really enjoyed learning a little more about your family in the post, Jean We share a parallel upbringing 300 miles apart The others are so right when they remark how lucky Bob is to have a caring person in his life, That makes all the difference! . For its real life caring people that make life a much sweeter deal I hope we don’t let that go--- you know where... Anyway dear till later thoughts in play

That's really weird about the coincidences on the hospitals!
What's even more weird is my wife seems to think I was born in a manger!
*More accurately she is constantly asking if I was born in a barn when I don't close the door...but I just assume she means manger!! LOL
