Glad it sounds like it went well!! I think that particular GasPasR might have been a bit excessive with the beard, but it can be grown back for sure. Thank, you, Grant. It did, it went superbly! Bob will get started on growing that beard back right away! I had to laugh at your name - GasPasR - for anesthesiologists, lol. Made me think of something else entirely! We had heard the nurses talking about this particular anesthesiologist before he arrived, him being 20 minutes late made me wonder how well a job he was going to do. Only one chance for a good first impression. He was definitely everything they had said, he did not disappoint. But, hey, he got the job done with no problems. Thanks also go to the surgical team. I may have mentioned I got a call from the hospital after I got home. They gave me a number and said I should call around 4, to find out if he got transferred to the hospital proper (surgery had been done in Outpatient area) and put into a room. I called at 4:10, and was told he had just arrived, but to give the nurse a little bit to get him settled into his room, and she'd call me back. I waited and waited, for more than an hour. Then Bob called me from his room, and asked what was up. I told him I was waiting for a call back from the nurse about his transfer. I finally called her back around 6:30, and asked if I could come and visit him. She said their visiting hours were over in a half hour. She checked with her supervisor, and told me that they had to stick by the rules, no go for me. Then she tells me they open at 10 tomorrow morning, I can see him then. Talk about an abrupt change to my plans for this evening. It was a disappoinment, to say the least. I asked her if they were at least going to feed him dinner, since he had not eaten since Tuesday night. She said their food service carts were starting their rounds. Some things about this experience I was very happy about, they had some great nurses in the PACU, that were funny, kind, and worked well with each other. Some things left something to be desired. But overall, I am happy with the final result - Bob has a new aortic valve! Yay! Last, but not least, thank you to everyone here that made Bob's surgery successful. And can't forget God. Thank you, God for Seeing Bob though this! Now he gets to recuperate!

James jamesp, now you are just being silly. Moi, abuse you? Never! I slept well last night, getting some well deserved rest. Got cold overnight, probably in the 40s. The heater kicked on! Looking forward to collecting Bob and bringing him home!

Amen aGates . And please God continue looking after Jean and Bob so I can continue to be abused by Jean. Amen Just fat fingered and lost my reply, starting over. Great meme, Jason, but you got one thing wrong - that's me after Bob's surgery, lol. Wiped out. I slept well last night after staying up until midnight. Long day! It was clear last night, and it got cold - 41 degrees! The heater kicked on, it's ran for a few hours in the am a few times recently, but right now it is the coldest it has been yet this fall. Or is it winter yet? Edit to add - And now I am repeating myself. Maybe I'm not as rested as I thought I was.

Well look at that...another thing we have in common...except that's how I look pretty much EVERY morning! LOL I'm glad you were able to get some much needed rest! Maybe it was too cold last night for the owls to hoot! Last night we got hit with the first "winter storm" of the year...which is later than it normally does. Freezing drizzle followed by snow = icy roads. I'm already for winter to be over! LOL

Jason jasoninsd . Brrrrr! Ice and I don't get along. It does not normally dip below freezing here, but when it does, it is not for long. I could not live in a climate where it stays below freezing for weeks on end, or even just a few days in a row. Because it doesn't here, that's why CA has such a big homeless problem. Even though not so cold, I would not wish homelessness, or being "unhomed" as they like to call it these days, on anyone. San Diego opens up shelters when it gets cold, but many do not partake. There are too many rules in place that they must follow in order to stay there and keep warm.

Looking forward to collecting Bob and bringing him home! Maybe Bob is enjoying time spent with young nurses and has no interest in being collected... Bob knows where his bread is buttered. Bet he is anxious to get back to home sweet home. Enjoy y'alls peace. Now that Bob has been rejuvenated you may struggle to keep up with him !

Now the only problem is, did they put in a mechanical valve or a valve from a pig heart. If it is from a pig heart he may not like bacon anymore and he may have cravings for corn on the cob.

If I don't follow my wife's rules, I'm in the doghouse...and it's NOT heated! LOL I understand shelter rules are pretty simple. No drugs or alcohol (since that is what has has caused many of them to become unhomed in the first place), no stealing from others, no violence. Basically live like a human being, pretty straight forward. And yet, it seems many of them would prefer to live on the streets and freeze their asses off, be a blight on the area, create a health hazard. Basically, humans are lazy, and will do as little as possible to get by. By giving handouts, the government has created, and continues to add to, this crisis. Lie, cheat, steal. That's the example politicians set for the people, they want the masses to be be drugged out, worthless, and dependent on government. Wish I was wrong...

I don't think he could ever not like bacon. Really, does anybody not like bacon? Sure, it's not healthy for you, moderation is the key! I asked this question of several people yesterday at the hospital. I know for certain it is not mechanical. It is either pig or bovine, most were leaning toward bovine. Bacon sounds good about now! I should get my butt out of my warm bed, have some hot coffee, and a warm breakfast. I gotta get moving. Everyone have a blessed day!

I'm okay with that too, jamesp . But mostly, I'd say it is give and take, 50/50. Equals, no winners, no losers.

Now the only problem is, did they put in a mechanical valve or a valve from a pig heart. If it is from a pig heart he may not like bacon anymore and he may have cravings for corn on the cob. Hi, rmf. Went and picked Bob up this morning, have been home for about an hour now. He was telling me they were talking about the new heart valve before the procedure started. It was in a box, that they would not even open to show him, it was not be opened by anyone except the surgeon. But he was told it looked really pretty, sort of like a crown. Not only did they tell him it was from a cow, it said so right on the side of the box, lol. As long as we continue to eat cows/steers, there should be no shortage of cow parts! PS. - He already loves corn on the cob, so should see no change there, lol. He was so glad to come home. He did not much care for the two meals he had while he was there, they were feeding him a bland food diet for a diabetic. Limp sausage, something vaguely resembling French toast... You get the picture. He did not realize he had a phone that they had placed on his bed, right next to his ear, until it started ringing in the middle of the night. Worst part about it, was that he could not answer it! He pushed the button on it, nobody there, no dial tone, nothing. I asked if he thought it was hospital personnel, he said no. (maybe, maybe not?) You know the saying - If it's important, they'll call back, which they did over half a dozen times overnight. The room had just a regular public phone number. When they were discharging, him having him sign the papers, his nurse was pulling off electrodes stuck to him for monitoring things. She took off a dozen or so, he still had four more on him when we got home.

Glad to hear Bob is home. The phone must have been very annoying. Hope he told someone about it.

rockpickerforever That is interesting cow heart products. Maybe in 10-20 years they will routinely get our own stem cells and be able to grow a new valve. We are very blessed we were not born 100years earlier. At least I am. I would have died from a ruptured appendix and if I would have survived that the cancer or heart attack would have got me. As for those leads if they would have told me I could have shaved my whole body so they would not pull out the hair with the sticky stuff. Glad you all are doing well!!!!
