Roy, the thing has a CD player under the seat. I'm already looking for 50's - 60's CD's to play while I'm driving it. Especially the instrumentals. Duane Eddy, The Ventures etc. Real driving music. You remember the saying back then? 4 on the floor, and a fifth under the seat:-)

Remember it well, but this one has a 39 Ford transmission. 3 on the floor + reverse.

Just saw the pics and I'm in love!!! You and your Bride are gonna turn some heads in that rig! especially when you open the cutout:-) I was gonna ask if it had the taillight jewels, but I see it does. Those are the coolest things since sliced bread!!!!! I still remember seeing a '40 Ford coupe with the Chevron taillights and those jewels in 'em.

The blue dot taillights are illegal in most states, but the cops seldom do anything about them.
Don't know if mamma will ride in it much. She likes the upholstery, but says the car is too loud. LOL, when I drove it up the driveway. I had the cutout opened. That little 4 banger really growls. Engine has plenty of grunt to it too. It'll run at freeway speed all day.

Well, you managed to survive the wait while your new baby was being shipped to you. Congrats on your new obsession, Don! I guess the wife's gonna let you live - for now. Tell me that you will let Jake ride in it? I'm sure he'd love it. (Don't forget that dogs are chick magnets, lol! As if the car isn't a head turner enough.)

Don't know if I would have survived if it hadn't gotten here 2 days early. Mamma will let me live. She'll just buy another sewing machine the next time she gets out to Rapid City. I won't have any choice but to let Jake ride in it. He hasn't been in it yet, but it's already his car. He just lets me drive him around.

Nice job to have, Jake's personal chauffeur in a classy car! Jake has the good life. His own private chauffeur. His 1/3 of my recliner. His share of anything I'm eating. And if I'm late taking him out, or let his food or water bowls run out, I hear about it.

I can't believe how much room there is in the garage now that my truck is out, and the coupe is in. Model A's were so much smaller than our modern cars. I can actually walk around in the garage without having to move something outside. And mamma can get in her car without banging the side of my truck with her door.

Nice car Don! Bring back memories from your youth? let his food or water bowels run out, I hear about it. That is a pretty funny typo.

Mark, I saw the same thing. Don't think I'd want my dog's bowels to run out in the house, lol!

I didn't mention this earlier, but the guy who totally rebuilt this car about 10 years ago passed away after putting less than 50 miles on it. It's been stored ever since. A friend of the widow has been taking it out for a short drive once or twice a month to keep the oil circulated and the battery charged. I know from window decals that the car has been in a few So. Cal. car shows. It must have been a trailer queen type show car. I just checked the mileage and it reads just over 105 miles. I've bought a brand new car. It'll be no trailer queen now. It was meant to be driven.

I got an email this morning from the lady who's husband built the car. Just thought I'd share it.
My name is Suzi and it is my husband Ron's Model A that you just purchased. I could not be more grateful that it is you that purchased his beloved car. I had prayed and prayed that someone would get the car that would appreciate it for what it was and not want to tear it apart.
Ron first got the car in high school. If you look closely, you will see that his high school parking sticker is still in the rear passenger's side window - he was very proud of that. His father was a Model A enthusiast and I think Ron hoped that it would make them closer. That idea quickly backfired as Ron turned out not to be a purest although he was vice-president of the local Model A Club of America in 1959 and remained a member for most of his life. Ron soon began transforming the car into to his own vision of a hotrod of the period. There were various stages of that vision until he finally had the car redone in 2010 as he always had envisioned it way back.
It gives me great comfort that one of his peers has the car now - Ron would have been 73 last February 23rd. It sounds as though you shared the same ideas. Not many want a 4banger these days even if it is done right. Somewhere Ron is smiling and you just may feel now and then that someone familiar is riding in the car next to you. I understand that you grew up in Riverside so perhaps the two of you may have rubbed elbows one day at Riverside Speedway.
I've attached a picture of Ron with the car not too long after he first got the car in '56 or '57.
I wish you all the best and may you enjoy the car.
God bless,
Suzi

Yesterday the mailman brought a big box of papers. Years of build sheets and info on the car. I haven't finished reading all of them, but found one of interest. It seems that when the frame was being boxed and prepped for the build, Rod & Custom magazine did a story about the build. Gonna see if I can find a copy of that issue.

At long last, I have all of the paperwork in order. If we don't have another gully washer tomorrow, I'll be heading to town to register my new baby and get plates for her.

I love a story with a happy ending. It has been wonderful reading this thread. Congrats on your new purchase and may it give you years of pleasure. You will have to spend a lot of time removing other people's drool from it. As a kid I grew up across the street from a man who did custom street rods first as a hobby, then as a living. I spent many an hour looking out my window to the garage across the street when I was supposed to be in bed, watching him transform old beat up bodies into beauties such as this. He would have some wreck delivered and months later a beautiful car would emerge. He won lots of awards and his work was in hot demand back then late 50's and early60's. Nice to re live good old memories. : )
