Well, the day here in northern VT started off fine. Windy, but sunny and 30 F. What a nice change. I shoveled the snow out of the shed and left the door open to dry it out. Mistake... because soon the sun went away, the temp dropped, the wind picked up, and now we've got snow blowing all over the place. To top it off the state plow has gone by at least seven times (there it goes again, make that eight, oops, now NINE, now TEN!!!)and has not swung in yet,and this is a state facility that is supposed to be kept clear for public use.

We're having a heat wave- almost 50F. Loving it!
My Maine cousin has really been having a time of it.
Didn't Mt Washington in NH have record low temps---- for the friggin planet? Amazing. When my brother and husband hiked the AT, they hiked Mt Washington. There are warning signs about the weather all over the place.

So, we had an abrupt January thaw that shut down just as quick as it arrived. What a mess it left! Suddenly 55 degrees and rain... massive snowmelt, icejams followed by plunging temperatures so the river in the next town over has flooded the road (and houses, cars, etc)and then froze. This is not a large road but a busy one, as it is the connector between the two interstates, and the only way around is either a long way around, or not quite as long, but you have to go through another country (Canada). The temp dropped from 55 degrees F to -10 the following night, and hasn't been above zero since, day or night. (OK, today might have gotten to "1" here today.) -16 when I got to work this AM. Very damp, too. By the way, today's high was supposed to be in the teens. Ha ha ha. Stop this train, I want to get off!

Oh and how could I forget to mention the Saturday snowstorm, with 8-10 inches of blowing snow?

This morning the News said we were at 7 degrees, my outdoor thermometer showed 4 degrees. Dogs did not care at all taking an outside break. Didn't have much winter at all the last few years. Keeping a humidifier running.

2" of snow in Atlanta shut our call center down. Hundreds of deposits not taken on same number of new jobs. I'm a SoCal boy and drove in driving snowstorm putting inches per hour and literally a foot on the roads over Christmas. Rented car, unfamiliar roads and no casualties! I guess I could a stayed in the hotel?

It's been a roller coaster ride of temps this winter. We get one week of extreme cold then one week of above seasonal temps. Right now were in the 30's warmer then parts of Florida?

1° F this morning in Albany, NY. I have marveled over the last weeks when it has been warmer here than in the deeper south.

Finally warmed up here; it's now 20 degrees with a little very fluffy snow falling. Not a bad day for January.
