My gf liked __ fill in the blank__ for years. Then we got married. The fill in the blank list is LONG. Then we got married ... *sigh* I needed her company's health insurance for becoming self employed.

So now I have way more boxes of rocks than I can ever use in this lifetime. Not seeing a problem here.

Keeps me off the streets and out of the bars... Keeps me busy (bad for a type-A to not be doing something) ... Not as grumpy when I am playing with my toys.

Keeps me off the streets and out of the bars... BINGO! If that's not worth a couple hundred thousand a year I don't know what is!

He makes models. Real tiny stuff. He has on optivisors as often as I do. I joke that he looks like a serial killer. You know on cop shows, they always have the geeky model making murderer? Anyway, I love his hobby and it keeps him home, happy and busy.

Well I officially will now have to nicely end things with the guy I have gone on a few dates with. He makes Models for his "war" games? Not sure really what they are. But now all I can think of is serial killer....sigh....he was cute......

My wife is fine with this hobby, like all my interests. She's loved rocks since moving to Utah and going hiking. We just never had a particular interest, collected agate and petrified wood by accident. With back problems it's difficult for her but she likes going collecting.
She's liberated a couple of my batches for gifts and a table display for us.
She laughs that the rocks will be at the local flea market with my guns and knives upon my passing. "One rock for a nickel, three for a dime."

No, no, NO! That's a stereo type. I love my geek! He's awesome. Your guy sounds like a keeper and he likes rocks and the outdoors, too. eta- I should add that right now DH is making his own miniature Warhammer game men. He's trying to encourage our grandson to do it for himself.

I needed her company's health insurance for becoming self employed. Was it worth it? Lol. It was a source of humor with the in-laws. Love my in-laws. Never one iota of marital pressure from them. We had already bought the farm together not 2 years after we met. So we had made the monetary commitment long before the little paper was signed.

So now I have way more boxes of rocks than I can ever use in this lifetime. Not seeing a problem here. No problem from my perspective. I plan on collecting every chance I get this year. I just get frustrated when he comments that there is no room in the garage because of all my rocks. But I can tell you it was DH that I found in the corner looking through crates and licking rocks this weekend when we were supposed to be cleaning up the garage!

Yep, the hobby is a respected pacifier in this household. Both her hobby and my hobby. What is it about 50 to 60 years old, do all us men get grumpy at this age ? I think so.

He's trying to encourage our grandson to do it for himself. I am partially joking-he is a really nice guy and admits his hobby is "nerdy" We had a whole discussion about who's was nerdier. He wins, but not by much. It is really kind of cute to watch him talk about it. I guess he does pieces on commission as well-who knew there were people out there that paid other people to make/paint models??? So not my usual type.....

Guess what, both genders get pickier with age. It's a fact !! My cousin girls 45 and 50 and dated 1000 times WILL NOT do anything but find fault in their dates. Keep tellin them they targeted as career spinsters. If I was a free man this minute the last thing I would be is picky. All she has to do is smell good and fit thru the doorway(preferably narrow ha). Gotta take a nerve pill every time they discuss the date day after.

I'm still fun. In oh so many ways. She doesn't want to do anything. Can't go out at night because she doesn't want to leave the dogs alone. I went to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra last year by myself because she didn't want to leave the dogs for a few hours. eta: Not fun sitting alone between two dudes! Go out to a bar or for dinner to see friends? Not gonna happen. Travel? *snort* Rocks? Oh hell no! They're dumb. Waste of time. Waste of money. Waste of space. I'm getting bored, and - The clock is ticking ...
