I'm very lucky with my DH! He loves me and loves to make me happy. I've never seen him as happy as he is swinging a sledge hammer. It's got to be a man thing. He just loves to open up, tear down, split open anything that most people wouldn't even try. I got him a Hulk tee shirt to wear on digs. He is freakishly strong and loves to show it. 💪 My only complaint is when he wont stop collecting. When we go on digs he has the mindset to 'get it all'. We've talked about this and he says that he just wants to make me happy, if a little makes me happy, then a lot should really make me happy. LOL So now I have way more boxes of rocks than I can ever use in this lifetime. He still talks about an agate boulder that I made him leave behind in Utah. The year before we blew out the axle on the truck on the way back home from collecting out west. I just didn't want a repeat of that incident. I am also lucky with my DH, as he likes to collect as much as I do. We can spend hours wandering out in the hot (100°+) desert in the hot sun for hours together. During high winds and blowing sand, too.
He was bitten by the rockhounding bug as a child, his mom loved rocks and lapidary. On family vacations, she would steer her husband (my FIL) and family miles out of the way (if he allowed her to drive while he took a nap), to go find rocks. Would wake up lost and off course, lol.
A broken truck axle from the weight of too much rocks sounds exactly like something that would have happened to them... Oh Luuuuuuuucy!

And ya know captbob , that goes both ways . Lot of "wimmin" say the same about their DHs.
The things I used to do, the fun I used to have....
I'm still fun. In oh so many ways. She doesn't want to do anything. Can't go out at night because she doesn't want to leave the dogs alone. I went to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra last year by myself because she didn't want to leave the dogs for a few hours. eta: Not fun sitting alone between two dudes! Go out to a bar or for dinner to see friends? Not gonna happen. Travel? *snort* Rocks? Oh hell no! They're dumb. Waste of time. Waste of money. Waste of space. I'm getting bored, and - The clock is ticking ... Sorry to hear that, Bob. Life is short. People change.
Since I no longer own pets, I don't get guilted out about leaving them home alone.

What is it about 50 to 60 years old, do all us men get grumpy at this age ?
Well there is a theory about this..........
Guess what, both genders get pickier with age. It's a fact !! My cousin girls 45 and 50 and dated 1000 times WILL NOT do anything but find fault in their dates. Keep tellin them they targeted as career spinsters. If I was a free man this minute the last thing I would be is picky. All she has to do is smell good and fit thru the doorway(preferably narrow ha). Gotta take a nerve pill every time they discuss the date day after. You crack me up--you asked about grumpiness, not getting pickier ; )
Picky or standards??? Huge difference....which is why it is easier for a man I think to date......just saying....All she has to do is smell good and fit thru the doorway(preferably narrow ha). ***My hips may not fit, but I do smell amazing***
We could have a whole separate discussion about this.

When we go to a show or sale my wife makes me buy more then I planed on. I make pendant and earring sets that both my wife and two daughter wear most every day. Each year for Christmas they each get sets made from the same rock, glass, or bowling ball. The girls have about 100 sets and the wife has over 175. Sure is fun that she enjoys it as much as I do..........................................MrP You, Sir, are a star 🌟 among stars. Well done! Would love to see pics of your bride's collection. I have tried many times but have never been able to get a good picture because of where it hangs. Hope this works...........................MrP

I'm not sure if I should have liked that post, captbob, but I did want to acknowledge it. I won't like it. But will offer condolences. Sorry to see that Bob. As for jamesp and 50-60 year old men being grumpy. Nope. Not here. Grumpy is a significant Low T symptom and we discussed that in another thread. Sorry to see that bit as well. We don't have much time left.time to enjoy what we have!

I got use to it-now that is over I wonder why the hell I did....
Marriages and relationships in general fascinate me---what we settle for, accept, what we don't communicate to our partners --what makes them work and what makes them not....why do we stop "dating" each other? uuuggghhh I could go on......-the stuff I think about.....really someone should spend a day in my head......

We don't have much time left.time to enjoy what we have! No condolences necessary, but thank you. Guess we all choose the cage we want to live in. Folks become inured to situations much less pleasant than mine. I have a nice cage. Just wish it had a 4 car garage sized shed in the back of it! Changes may be in store. Time will tell. You are right, we ain't gettin' any younger!

Just need to get this job transfer completed (back to sales; F managing) and get our workshop space made. Then life will be good. I wish you had space for your dream shop too. Sincerely.

I'm getting bored, and - The clock is ticking ... Get a dog sitter for a few hours. Seriously, people do that -- both hire dog-sitters and dog-sit. Traveling for any length of time is more challenging, but its not necessarily impossible to find an overnight sitter who is good and reliable. If I come to your house and dog-sit, can I play with your dumb useless rocks and lapidary equipment?

Keeps me off the streets and out of the bars... Keeps me busy (bad for a type-A to not be doing something) ... Not as grumpy when I am playing with my toys. Yep, the hobby is a respected pacifier in this household. Both her hobby and my hobby. What is it about 50 to 60 years old, do all us men get grumpy at this age ? I think so. I don't view myself as grumpy at all... I think my Daughter is simply stereotyping me. I view myself as a ray of sunshine!!! ... or is it catoyance... Cold sober sunshine!

No problem MsAli. I was tired yesterday after unloading a trailer full of steel. Feeling my age. Was not in the mood for mr. shotgunner's little condescending remarks.

I actually slept for 12 hours last night- a record I think. I woke up with the back ache from hell. You know you're getting old when sleeping hurts!

Sorry to hear Tela. 12 hours is a marathon for us older folks. Sounds like you need to slow down on the partying. 4 hour shift sleeping for this old man. Get lots of sleep but have to do it in shifts. Not sure if that is a common way of solving sleep problems caused by pain. PM me your address, I got a goodie for you. Yep, this thing has been sitting on my desk and you are the perfect recipient. Can or will you cab glass ?
