I had to look it up as well, even though I'm not in Rio Linda. Yep, I know where that phrase comes from.
Your link didn't produce any results for me...blank definition, so I even did some extra work.
My wife tolerates my tumbling habit, though I am not deeply into it in terms of equipment and material (a tile saw, 3 tumblers and I'm guessing about 3 hundred pounds of material or so). She likes looking at the finished product and displaying them in different vessels around the home.
She went to Quartzsite this year with me, and it was the first time for both of us. To a degree, I was kind of surprised that she wanted to go, but then again I wasn't surprised. She really likes stone-based jewelry, as opposed to precious gems (that's a good thing for me
), and we knew there would be plenty for her to look at.
As the two days at the shows wore on, I actually found myself waiting for her to look at stuff instead of the other way around. She had a great time there, and she's even expressed an interest in trying traditional and cold forge wire wrapping. She also bought a few inexpensive cabs to work on and try her hand on different things.
The true test, however, was when I bought 4 lbs of condor agate nodules to cut and tumble. If it bothered her, she didn't say anything, though she is the type to do so, as she looks at things fairly pragmatically. Heck, I actually surprised myself by this purchase and she just went with the flow.
We haven't done a hounding trip together, but I actually don't hound too much myself. However, as long as the shows are around, we'll try to do those. She's already expressed in interest in going to Tucson next month and Prescott later in the year. It could be a good year.
