And yes. It was collected by me. Almost any piece of Slovak minerals what I have in my collection were collected by me. Definitely I will be updating this topic with new informations and progress. And of course with new stabilized greenish opals cabochons. Looking forward to seeing your updates on stabilizing your opals and the Slovak minerals you have collected, seejey!

Beautiful scenery pics, stephan. Did you see any of the ant hill mounds where the chrome pyrope is 'mined' by the ants?

Enjoyed seeing dem bones of yours, stephan! The whale bone is fascinating and love your coprolite cab. Saw Alice in Chains in the early '90's in Tallahassee's civic center. Wild! I cannot remember, lol, but I think they opened for Van Halen (w/ Sammy Hagar).

Thank you, roy! Do sellers usually disclose information to potential buyers that the material has been heat-treated?

Thank you, jamesp! I'll see if I can get Rick to ask some of the guys that grew up here who owns the land out there. Well, garock may know. I don't wanna get shot at or arrested for picking up pretty xtals. Also, when coming to Smith's Cross Roads, instead of going straight across to Hog, the gas station/store on the left after crossing the intersection has a clay bank on the left looking at the store that is full of small clear quartz crystals by the hundreds. Is this where Smith's Crystal field is located? Rick and I have been to Smith's Corner store and went inside to check out the crystals. There was a plowed field that I guess is where they allow folks to look for rock crystal for a fee. I think there's a bar/restaurant behind the store now? People used to meet at Smith's Corner Store to go to the Hogg mine, but I think they meet at McDonald's now. Not sure. Just looked online for more info on Smith's Corner Store, and it looks like there was an estate sell. ? Just found Mr. Smith's obituary from last year. Very sad. Wonder who owns the property now.

Hi, tjm, and Welcome to the forum! Not sure what you have there, but it is interesting and pretty. Could it be pisolitic bauxite or possibly oolite? It kinda looks like bauxite. ?? Physical Properties of BauxiteChemical Classification Color: white, gray, sometimes stained yellow, orange red, pink, brown or yellow by iron or included iron minerals Streak: usually white but iron stain can discolor Luster: dull, earthy Diaphaneity: opaque Cleavage: none Mohs Hardness: 1 to 3 Specific Gravity: 2 to 2.5 Diagnostic Properties: often exhibits pisolitic structure, color Chemical Composition: variable but always rich in aluminum oxides and aluminum hydroxides Crystal System: n/a Uses: primary ore of aluminum, also used as an abrasive Source: geology.com/minerals/bauxite.shtmlAlso found some info on the Reynolds oolite found in Southern Arkansas: archives.datapages.com/data/bulletns/1968-70/data/pg/0053/0009/1900/1909.htmShort Creek oolite: gsa.confex.com/gsa/2014AM/finalprogram/abstract_249790.htmWe have found a lot of Crinoids over the years in the area (within 50 miles).... My kids call them carrot fossils "Carrot fossils" ROFL!

That's pretty darned cool that you're tumbling some Hogg mine rose quartz, jamesp! Does any of it have asterism? I've read that quartz is difficult to material to tumble because it fractures. Are your rose quartz tumbles coming along okay? Maybe one day Rick and I will get to the Hogg - maybe if they have a 1/2 entry price and don't see that happening any time soon (or ever). Did y'all do any mud wrestling over the weekend? J/K, jamesp!

Here's the heat treated Biggs dry. Wanted to get a wet pic outside, but the wind is gusting over 50 MPH. Heat treating does weird things. Tap this piece with your fingernail and it rings like a bell. More from yesterday. Succor Creek. Deschuttes Owyhee Mtn. Dendritic Just spotted these beauties you recently posted, Don. I like your heat-treated Biggs. Is one of the confirmations for heat treatment of picture jaspers the ringing bell sound it makes when you tap the jasper? Just kidding, Don, but I do wonder why it rings like that after being treated...

My apologies for straying off topic, NDK, but I wanted to ask if you will please update your cabbing machine thread with any modifications you make to it when you can? I exchanged the motor I had on there for the 1 I planned to use & wired it with a ground as 1dave suggested. I've been planning to figure out drains for the hoods, but every time I get the few pieces needed they won't work quite right. I think I finally have it figured out, so a trip to the store one last time should do the trick.

Thank you for sharing your technique, 1dave. Have a lever-lock drum and when the rubber backing needs replacing, will be following your instructions.

May sound dumb for asking but what causes the lines in it ? Wondered the same, braders. Is it manganese oxide (psilomelane?) inclusions or sagenite?
