phil I am not in a hurry. Most important is to get a solid piece of equipment. I think a lot of folks including myself would like to see your builds

I am in the market for a drop saw. If anyone knows of one available near Oregon I would love to hear.
would also be interested in a LS10

I put an old nylon screen door panel over a salvaged table that has 1/2" metal screen for a top, spray with hose, done in 15 mins.

nice work there. I like the added appeal that you got with the accent holes in the seam agate

so I got this really nice package of quartzite just before Christmas. Thanks jamesp . Noticed the 'alternative' packing material, had to lol at this thread, dishtowels a sensitive topic in this house too. Better or worse if I sent it back? ETA: will post pics of the batch of rocks tomorrow

cababeads, I like it. Softer rock is easier to drill too.

how did you get such nice smooth holes in those? very nice. KD I use 2 methods: drill from both sides using a jig to make sure the holes meet in the center. I also drill oversized blanks and grind down until the holes are clean.

here is my entry, a holly blue agate with golden moss strands. I found this rough at n estate sale almost two years ago and have been hesitant to cut. I cut it parallel to the layers to get the 'eye'. was fun. the rough, sorry I didn't get a pic of the freeform the cab another view

I have an entry planned (Holly blue with moss), just have to buff out the polish...but an end-of-year deadline has me in the office all weekend. Will see if I can polish rocks for relaxation tonight or tomorrow night.

Always thinking, it get me in trouble. I think that an oversized marble mill would work. could repurpose an old millstone for the process maybe. I like the idea of your device. The most time consuming step in the whole process is the initial rough out...going from cubes to near spheres. If that could be automated, the whole process could be automated.
I once saw a video of a machine that had a steel barrel with a very shallow paddle on the bottom that rotated rapidly. this nocked the corners off stone cubes so they were round enough to go into the mill.
