I am thinking of heading out there. Not sure if I should make one trip, or two. I want to visit the Quartzsite, but also the Quartzfest.

Tommy we tried to get to Pebble Terrace ( if you google it the site should come up ). Key word being tried, the road had about a 1/2 mile run thru loose silt and we started bogging down and I didn’t want to risk it it the 2 wheel drive Pathfinder. This was about 6 miles away from the collecting site lol. That is a awesome invitation and sounds great Tommy, however I haven’t been to Wiley Wells area in about 15 years so couldn’t vouch for any sure fire spots out there. I do have the GPS book for Wiley Wells that has many locations, this book is about from 2005 so not sure on those places now. I will try to touch base with one of our club members, Dave, that did a recent trip out there with Lapidary Dave on his YouTube channel and they were filling buckets with eggs. Rascal seldom is at the club when I’m there but I will try to get in touch with him thru another member. I had not heard of Pebble Terrace before so thanks for that. Yeah I haven't explored much out there so I don't know how the roads are. I remember crossing the big wash but that's about the only specific thing I remember. I'm not worried about myself as we will be in my lifted Tacoma but I think it would be nice to find a location near Qz that is accessible by most vehicles so we could post it here as a field trip. I don't know the WW area well enough to feel confident in safely leading a group to nice pickens. Nothing worse than people having to turn around - or get pulled out of sand

It is pretty much the rockhound event of the year. Sure there is Tucson and Denver, etc. but Quartzite is essentially the rockhound and lapidary Mecca of the year with arts, crafts, jewelry, self promoted items, etc sprinkled throughout. My best description is a town wide swapmeet with the focus on rocks, minerals, and lapidary with many of the dealers being the artisans themselves, the miners who recovered the stones, etc. Many members here will have booths at the Pow Wow and Desert Gardens. Also I’ve been informed by a member of our club who knows them personally the Aussies will be at Desert Gardens this year in their usual spot. I’d imagine they have a ton of exciting material since they have been stuck over there since the beginning of Covid. Ever since I was a kid I always heard of Tucson. Tucson, Tucson, Tucson. I always thought that was the biggest show and wanted to go but never did. Did Quartzite somehow surpass Tucson as THE show?

Quartzite is nothing like it was 30 or so years ago. While still a big town wide show it has shrunk in participants. I’d say if Tucson is the expensive steak house of shows Quartzite would be the family diner. For lapidary minded folks I think Quartzite is the place.

Any hounding trips planned? We now figure we will find a spot to bivouac in the van for a couple nights. Between prep for family to come for the holidays, prep to be vendors 2 weeks before the PowWow in Mesa, and me working part time that's about all we will be ready for. So I'm wondering if Thursday through Saturday or Friday through Sunday works better if anyone plans to do any digging so we might be able to be around for it.

Yeah, sorry everyone. Sometimes life has a way of throwing curveballs at you even if they are good ones. If anyone had told me that after starting this thread I would get sucked head-first-wallet-second into a whole house renovation project, I would have told them they were nuts. Please everyone continue with the Friday night get together at Tony's booth at Desert Gardens (if that is still his plan catmandewe). I know you all will have a great time without my awkwarding it all up - and please support Tony by buying lots of rocks or equipment from him.

Good Luck on the renovation project. There will still be a get together at my booth on Friday night for RTHers, no purchase necessary. Tony
