I'm debating on whether or not I should groove the turritella agate cab above for wire wrapping or drill through the top for a nice finding, possibly sterling although it almost suggests a warm color like gold or brass. The material is REALLY sensitive and a groove will push what's holding those fossils together. I may have answered my own quandry.

This month's contest tipped the scale from being "into" cabbing on my flat lap towards being "addicted" to cabbing period. I'll eventually get one of those cabbing machines or expandable wheel arbors and really get cracking. I've got too many slabs not to do this. Because of some stupid internal honor mechanism, I won't vote for my own cab but good luck to everyone. Some really REALLY pretty work out there for the cheap material. - Rob You might be getting some strongly worded letters from my wife now that I can point my finger to someone.

I ain't skeered... miket and I have been blaming each other for years over who is responsible for each of us "acquiring" new material! LOL (*Of course...if your wife is like mine, maybe I should be a little scared! LOL)

She's got Irish blood in her so I am quite happy to say that I have NOT been the focus of her Ire and I aim to keep it that way. (I know, really low hanging bad pun here).

I have made thousands of cabs...and my wife never really showed any interest in wanting any of them...until I made a smaller Lapis cab...then she just "had" to have that one! My wife's German...so maybe not as full of ire! LOL

My bad, I know someone else that also switched. Great work, all! Sorry if it looked like I was calling you out Mike I didn't mean it that way. The takeaway for me is I got in a hurry and didn't read thru the whole thread before working on the photos. I never do that because changes are normal and do occur frequently and I know better.

I want to thank everyone you threw their hat in the ring on this one! I've been privy to several conversations regarding "the priciest material" having an advantage in the monthly contests...so I've been dying to give this theme a go. I was hoping people would take the "cheap/common" material and find the diamonds in the rough (pun intended!). I was also hoping this could show some pretty dazzling cabs can come from some inexpensive material. Y'all did exactly that! Give yourselves a pat on the back as there's some sweet eye-candy this month! 12 solid entries - I'd say you done good! Nice contest

This is one time I just don't want to vote! I can't decide yet, and I don't want to screw this up!! I'm going to have to really think this one through.
Why did you have to make it sooo darn hard people!!

I went for broke and made a choice. It was tough, but there was a girdle that screamed perfection. I think robots made it. AI girdles.

- Rob I positively LOVE turritella agate (I’m a fossil nut!), and with that piece I would definitely lean towards a brass or copper colored finding or wrap; it’s got such a lovely warm hue to it. (Also if that piece will be looking for a home in the future, by all means DM me a shop link! It’s stunning!)

I'm gonna go finding shopping. BTW My wife has officially passed on this cabochon so it will be for sale in the near future. - Rob

Congratulations jasoninsd! Beautiful Montana agate cabochon and well deserving of winning the 'budget' contest. My issue with Montana and something that I suspect might have a little do with its cost was always that it's so bloody hard and so bloody clear it takes a LOT of time and patience to achieve a flawless piece. When I was prowling shows looking for slabs I encountered a lot of Montana and just looking at it made my wrists hurt When an artist like yourself finds the right inclusion pattern however it's well worth the effort and you did a wonderful job on this stone.
