Been on the news all morning. Gunman opened fire from the 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay on a country western concert finishing up below. So far 20 confirmed dead, 100 injured and possibly 2 Metro police officers dead. Gunman killed.

Update. 50+ dead including one metro officer and several officers from other jurisdictions. Over 200 injured, including 2 officers, one in critical condition. Now being listed as largest mass shooting in history.

There is so many soft targets in the USA (and in other countries) that a nutjob/psycho/terrorist can cause major damage with little equipment...it sounds like in this case the murderer(s) had some heavy equipment and knew how to use it. The motive will be interesting to find out...this guy had no intention of leaving that hotel room alive.

Turned out the shooter was not from Las Vegas but rather Mesquite about 80 miles North of here. He apparently was just looking for mass casualties. The concert was sold out and so was packed. He was heavily armed with 8 assault weapons, lots of magazines and made sure his suite had multiple angles to shoot on the crowd from. He even set up cameras in the hallway to see if police were coming after him. He shot out the windows and fired on the crowd. Most people at first thought they were fireworks going off or some sound malfunction and so most people did not even start moving until they saw people dropping from being shot. He was shooting so rapidly that all the smoke from the gun set off the fire alarm in the room, which is how the police found him so quick and killed him. Otherwise the death toll and injuries would have been significantly higher. |

With the media reporting the part about the smoke and fire alarms tipping the LEOs off as to the shooter's location...some weasel terrorist (homegrown or other) is making notes in his little filthy playbook.
I noticed where the shooter's brother stated that the murderer had no affiliations or issues with anybody or anything..."He was just a guy.". No, he was not "...just a guy"...he was a psycho and somebody knew he had some peculiarities about him.. It was mentioned that the local law "knew him", but yet it was reported that he didn't have a record of any arrests...so how did the law "know him"? Maybe from his apparent collection of firearms? I like guns, so no harm no foul in having several. Was he "friends" with the LEOs and flew completely below their radar? Very sinister, evil people are very smart and great at deception. I'm sure there are acquaintances of the shooter who are wracking their brains trying to figure this out.
I would wager that he was either a radical Muslim or simply a psycho,...but, that is redundant. Those seem, to me, to be the only creatures that would kill indiscriminately as was done in Las Vegas.

This totally sucks and with that high number of dead and wounded there will be thousands of people, family and friends, that will suffer for a long time. The political BS is going to get way out of hand quickly with this one and the finger pointing could last for years. Hell, Muslim has already been mentioned on here The reason for calling this the largest mass shooting in US history is because back in the days of the Native American slaughter they didn't bother to count. Yes, there were reports early on that some lady was in the bar in Mandalay Bay yelling about people were going to die. They think it may have been a lady who his roommate or girlfriend. They were looking for her this morning and had BOLOs out for her and the vehicles she may have been in. They confirmed they had her in custody this morning, but that was shortly before I went to bed so I have not heard if she was involved or not. Watching the news right now. |

Jim It is a shame that Muslim was brought up. People should not be jumping to conclusions like that. Any race or religion can be a terrorist. And you are right about the Native Americans. Interesting how very little is taught or recognized about Native American history. There is even a Martin Luther King Day but no Sitting Bull Day. He led a lot of people to fight for their freedom like Martin Luther King did but he is hardly ever mentioned in history. |
