So, are you wanting to live out west after this trip Mel ? Perhaps a cabin ? I would move in a Hot Second Jim!!! Conn would have to brush up on his flying around mountain skills. As for me all I'd need is an Air-conditioned rock shop and my sinuses to get used to the altitude and no humidity. 😂 1dave also gave me another very special piece that came from you. It's coral. He speaks very highly of you. I so enjoyed our short visit.

I would start by grinding the cigarette on the cabbing wheels with a lot of water. The rock looks like a granite so acid is out. The peridot looks too small to small to do much with other than to cab. The l crystals in the later pics looks more like small quartz crystals. You could slab behind them then shape a cab around them such as an oval leaving the crystals intact. That would look really nice. Great advice beside the cig comment 😡😂 That's my "keep me out of prison" stick James!

Now how do I get these Precious small peridot out of this rock?? Acid? Dremel? Maybe I missed something, but why do you want to get them out of the host rock? What would you do with them then? NICE looking bunch of rocks you collected on your trip! Looks like lots of fun on your horizon. Indian Blanket? Did you take any pictures of the area you collected this? Haha I didn't have to take any pics. They use them for landscaping rocks, NO S**T! Thousands of great quality Indian Blanket around all kinds of building. I couldn't even rest at the hotel 😂

captbobI want to get them out Cause I Can 😂 but seriously, it's my oldest son's birthstone and to be able to find it, clean it and set it (possibly in a Mother's ring) one day when I can also get the other 2's birthstones would really mean a lot to me.

okey dokey makes sense now
Why not just beat the rock with a hammer? Avoid where the crystals you are after are. Gonna be easier to get to crystals once rock is broken down, and they just may pop out as you have your way with the rock. May even find more inside the rock.
Amazing what folks use for landscaping rocks in different parts of the country! Jim found some really nice keeper Rios in the landscaping at the McDonald's in Zapata.

Westbound and down. can't believe you would leave the south behind ? what about sand between your toes ? Sister moved out to Oregon and loves it. she does miss the beach.
The rocks out there would be worth it.
Yes. Stealing rocks in south Texas landscapes is worth the risk. Walk on the rocks looking and pretend to be talking on the cell phone. You look not so obvious. Rock rich out the west way.
that Indian Blanket is crazy.

Anyone heard from Lynn lately. Been pretty quiet from his direction., Am sure he added 200 bucks to Mel's postage fees. He did have an out of state show in Colorado to top of all his efforts. Might be a while before some one that old regains his fire. hehehehe That'll bring him out of the wood work. C Working in Vegas I think? Ah Long haul but gotta eat..

Wow The pixie hit a home run!! What a huge and wonderful set of rocks.. Wow. Will take me two weeks to comment on all of your treasure. Couldn't have happened to a nicer lady. When you get rested have to make Con a giant lasagna for all his help, love, patience and rock box packing, hauling and such. Really happy for your haul little sister. Ummm not much on cooking 😂 Yeah Rock soup gets old even when young and cute.. But you know the pizza delivery number

I use to love it but now it is so boring!! Destin is boring, I should say, not all beaches. I don't drink very much any more so there isn't anything to do there but get drunk, get burnt up or and eat!! Still LOVE Outer banks of North Carolina, St Martin an even Pensacola, Fl (short trips). I regret not getting more of the Indian Blanket now!! Heck what was one more box! Plus it was so easy to collect 😂 I'll go back though!!!!

I don't eat much and Conn eats out almost 3 meals a day (even before I came around). I know how to cook and do from time to time. Trust me he much prefers lean and meal over Betty Crocker 😂

Hounded the local landscape rock store yesterday while picking up a 100 lb chunk of sandsrtone paver for glueing down a new lot o double. Pretty stuff but mostly onyx and softer. Still am soft hearted for the softer rocks.

I'm doing some research on the subject but for now I'm happy just looking at them! Wished in my younger multiple job title days I would have dipped my toe in that part of the Landscaping business!!! I do have an "IN" when it comes to Mississippi an our waterways, trails, geography and such. My dad worked with an asphalt company for 40yrs. He did the dirt work part so we have long conversations about rock bottom creeks, history and land formations.

I'm saying those green gems aren't peridot. Google spessartine garnet and look at the crystal shapes. melhill1659

So anything that will break down the matrix will probably also break down the crystals.
