Great advice beside the cig comment 😡😂 That's my "keep me out of prison" stick James! Peridot crystals usually grows in olivine/olivine basalt - iron and magnesium. So anything that will break down the matrix will probably also break down the crystals. Thank You then I will remove them with care.

I'm saying those green gems aren't peridot. Google spessartine garnet and look at the crystal shapes. melhill1659Sure will, thankcha. I was just certain they were purdy. But very happy to learn! jeannie cabbing yet Scott?

Btw Where did you get all that purdy Indian blanket. not Holt. pm me if you want.. They use it for landscaping rocks in Utah. It's everywhere. My hotel had tons and tons. Indian Blanket Info: Some years back they had a flood at Enterprise Utah (just barely over the line from Iron County into Washington County. The local people knew of a ledge of hard rock, so used heavy equipment to use it for fill to stop the flood. They noticed the colorful rock layer below the ledge and started selling it as landscape rock. a few rockhounds tried cutting and polishing it and WOW IT WAS FANTASTIC. Slowly the mine owner caught on and the rest is history. I believe the material is metamorphic ash fall tuff.

Is that similar to the Black Canyon and Grand Canyon onyx they sell as landscape rock in western colo? Its out of Az. Anyone know>? It seems soft but very pretty.

coloradocliff, I'm not familiar with the stuff you're talking about, but the IBJ looks nothing like onyx. Some has Opalite & some is a porcelain jasper. The harder stuff takes a great polish like most hard jaspers. Lynn

Stuff is tough to find on eBay and even slabs can get pretty pricey for what I don't consider a rare material. A local to that collecting area could pull in a pretty nice chunk of change selling it if so inclined.

Lots of stuff from that location will/can bring in a pretty penny. Quality Picasso stone is even getting expensive. @shotgunner found a 250 lb chunk of Picasso, probably easily worth over 1000 bucks were he to sell as chunks or slabs. Good to live near the rocks. A person could make a VERY good living selling what can be found on public lands if they wanted to put the effort into it.

melhill1659, I'm not as active of a poster as some of you. Look at coloradocliff. It took me a few years to post as much as him in what a week? I got my job back. I started yesterday. Still getting access to my old files, etc. New laptop running Win 10. Hey Microsoft, can you make it any more convoluted? Can you make it pretty, but hard to use? Can you keep copying the competition, but do it poorly? Yes to all questions. I sure had a great weekend with y'all visiting, hounding, & eating. If we make this a regular thing, do you think we could get more RTH'ers to make the trip to Utah? Lynn

Eventually, we will be there! I have faith!😊

zarguy... I knew you were probably absent because of the new Job Adventure. Yes, totally agree with the Windows thing. I like my iPhone but WILL NOT BUY another laptop or desktop that's not an Apple because of that very reason. I'm computer savvy an all the new computers come filled with so much junk that doesn't allow it to run as efficiently as it should. I'm a big fan of HP if it could run on a different operating system. captbob... I picked up about 86lbs of the Picasso myself. I'm such a hoarder though 😂😂 I'll get around to selling One Day.

I just found this post and sooooo wish I'd seen it a few weeks ago. I'm in Utah (Spanish Fork) as well and would have loved to have joined you. That Indian Blanket Jasper is amazing looking stuff. Everything you collected looks great. We're headed down to Beaver for the long weekend - hoping to hit the Picasso Marble, Zebra Marble, and the obsidian beds. I'd love to get out to the Indian Blanket Jasper site. Is that in Enterprise or am I mis-remembering? I've never been there before.

ponchorage Be sure to stop at "Love The Art" in Beaver. I plan to drive there next week to gather some Deer Creek Fire agate. They have a selection of about anything you can think of without the road trip expenses. if you have never broke down out in the wilds you may not understand. I like their top quality selections. The Indian Blanket is on a private mining claim. You are talking about a several week trip otherwise.

1dave I love "Love the Art"! We stopped in last weekend on the way down to my sister's wedding and I was really excited when I saw the open sign on. The last couple of times we'd been down that way they were closed. I got to the door and there was a note saying they were out to lunch so I wasn't able to go in. We're definitely planning on stopping in again and I hope they are open. Not sure I follow about the several week trip regarding the Indian Blanket. Did you guys get permission from the claim owner or did you get the rocks from elsewhere on your trip?

I don't think any of it was collected "in the wild".

Wow! You all had a wonderful adventure! Thanks for sharing - especially the pictures. I may have been collecting rocks all of my life, but I really have not been looking in the right places. Utah is awesome and I don't think I picked up a single rock when I was there many years ago.
