I read another post asking about the count and whether it was related to the Chatroom - this one is answered "no". The count on the main page of this board isnt related in anyway to the chatroom - to increment the count on the board - you have to log into the board. I was wondering whether some peeps had logged into the chatroom - via the link on the board (but not logged into the board) - and could not see themselves logged in on the board - a possibility. in summary cos Im waffling - the board and chatroom are completely unrelated. I saw another question asking whether the chat room is part of proboards. No - proboards provide the systems for the message board - the chatroom is just a small freebie one I found and put up a couple of years ago. Hope these pointers answer a few queries. Cheers

Hi there - its a definate fiddle we are trying - I can understand ProBoards will quite rightly want to automatically disconnect any connections which arent being actively used in terms of people entering messages.
It is in their resource interests on a large scale and a fair cop without doubt.
Can I ask a stupid question?
How do you know that "proboards no longer considers me "online"." - if your screen saver is on?
What can you see? Is there a message or something showing?
The reason Im asking is that im a bit confused.
Im under the impression that if any application (screen saver, other browser or any other program) placed your RTH application into the background - then you should still be logged in - and indeed - it should be true to say that you are also still visibly logged in to other members also using the board.
Let me know the results of your test - Id much appreciate any insight into this.
I strongly suspect that if I was logged in - and you were also logged in at the same time - when your PC went off doing something else - I would still see you as logged in.
I wonder what ProBoards are up to - could be something to do with other people not "seeing themselves" in the list - even though they are logged in.......
Laters and Best Regards Mark

I read a few people wondering about timing out due to inactivity. When you log in - theres a small box beneath the password which enables you to stay logged in from between 15 mins to Forever. If you want to stay logged in for another "counter dash meeting" then pls try setting this to a higher value - that should sort it out. Regarding people who logged in and could not see their names listed at the bottom - or the counter is "missing" - please can you post a screen dump so I can see the scree with the counter missing - I can pass this to proboards. Cheers Hope this helps a bit. Mark

"would there be away of listing the number of people in the chat room on the home page?"
No - the chatroom and main boards are independent of each other - the primary function of the chat rooms was just to let a couple of people have a yak if they saw each other online at the same time.
Or say chat live about some probs or something else which needed a quick answer.
Im on larger rooms tho for the future.

Xenas there are some links at the top of the boards and the main page "RTH Chat Room 1 --- RTH Chat Room 2" - you can click on those and a small chat room should pop-up.

KD the Database is 50$ per year for me - and some front end software needed - there are some free ones but the FlashChat Cher mentioned looks good. Quite a bit of reading up for me to do - I have to be certain about how my costings work as if it goes over certain sizes (the Database) - then I get charged. Now that in itself doesnt really worry me too much - BUT they dont say HOW MUCH I will get charged. I need to establish the kinds of IO a chatroom will perform and how much space it will use up over time. Probably virtually nothing - but I have to be certain. Mark

Can we all login at a given time so we can get rid of this at the bottom..... "Most users online was 39, Apr 10, 2006" Was there a meet up on that day or something? Flippin 39 at the same time? New people showing up will see that April thing and think we are all shut down at this rateand not join. For sure I cant sort a big meet up as I dont know the US times properly - but i'd like some help in getting shut of that April date. Anyway its bonfire night over here so its fireworks soon

I said it before and i reckon ill say it again -
If you love the rocks and mother earth - then all the folk around you who are into the beauty of the earth and rocks and shine are BOUND TO BE TOP AND FRIENDLY PEOPLE.
Thats my take on it anyway.
Puppie - we are "generous, trusting, and honorable" - and also may I add "aware" - because decent folk are also "aware" of the off types that pop up here and there.
If youre into the earth - then all is smoooooooooooooooooth.

Looking at posts here and the voting now and previously - it appears that with or without the smite function it is better left off the board.
Thanks for voting.
Chassroc - "OK ... so you want people to vote about the subject, "KARMA". Incredibly, you provide no explanation of what it i, what is does, its benefits, its downside, nothing!"
Its benefits and downsides are absolutely down to the individuals perspective - nothing to do with me.
I provided a brief description when I switched it on - its just a little "point scoring function" whereby people can increase another members score if the (for example) like a post - or if they dont like a post - they can reduce the score.
Its part of proboards - I just thought I would provide as much to you guys as proboards have to offer. The fact it didnt work out is fine - only time would tell.
So - by general consensus it will remain off.
All is smoooooth Mark

William - for the purposes of the requirments of our god sent friend g0o g1e - I would prefer not to have links to sites which promote (by virtue of spam) the likes of "adipex" and that sort of thing.
Im certain the target site is a good one - but its full of spam - and the engines dont like sites which link to sites which are filled with spam - because they believe that the linking site is also full of spam.
I havent deleted your link William - I have just broken it up with *'s so the spiders dont follow it.
Feel part of the internet struggle against the dirty g00 g1e and youll see why i worry so much about this site - and the fact it can get smited by the russian owners of that engine with their greedy little minds.
