I can't help you on the mineral specimens question, but I usually multiply the cost of the rough x4 for slab pricing. That's a very loose rule of thumb for me, but it seems to work in most instances. I also use wholesale and retail pricing, usually by volume. If someone wants to purchase multiple lbs, or repeats orders, that person gets a better price since they are saving me time on the sales end. If you are wholesaling, you'd typically ask 50-60% of retail.
Anecdotal evidence: When I was at Quartzsite a couple of years ago, I had a fellow come into my booth and ask about my material. I gave him the same general sales pitch I had used 10,000 times by that point. Came down to prices, and the per/lb price. He didn't blink or ask for a discount, but started picking through my piles. He spent about an hour in my booth, talking to me, and weighing each piece individually. He finally found one he wanted, and it weighed up to about $5. He offered me $3. I was so tired of focusing on him, I accepted just to get him to move on. Then he pulled our a $100 and asked me to make change for it. Needless to say, he didn't leave with any of my rocks. :

Plenty of iron in this one... The white is a relatively small area in a larger cobble. The slab before this one had less white, but was just as striking. Pictured below:

Here is a better photo. Zooming in, you can see the white area is really made of micro poppies... So excited about this one!

Thanks! I just looked back at this thread and noticed that the photo is a bit out of focus. I'm going to try to remedy that now.

I've never been able to get a workable piece of this Olympic Poppy Jasper patter before. Found this one in the mine yesterday, and had to take some slabs. This is the best one, about the size of a silver dollar. One crack along the white edge, but other wise its solid!

As you pursue this hobby, you'll become more like the old timers and actually pee yourself a little more each time....

That's a sweetheart! What is the scale there? Is that from Stoney Creek, CA?

Tomorrow is mining day at my Olympic Poppy Location. I'm offering up MFRB's for sale. I sell to forum members for less than Ebay and Facebook, so I'd prefer to discuss price via PM. Thanks!

Here is a teaser- The heel cut. 1 fracture near the top, but the rest is super solid!

Seem to be having trouble embedding a video here. Any tips?

I think this shot was a work in progress photo. By looking at the step into the shower, I'd have to say that my wife pushed me out of the way to snap the shot. BTW, that space is bigger than it looks. I could comfortably fit 4 or 5 people with out even getting kinky!

This is the shower that I built for my house. Great use for all the extra tumbles!

Miander- You've got the sickness for sure. My dining room table looks like your bookcase!

Everyone started somewhere! There is a ton of potential in that pile. Keep it up.

Very very nice. Like creating an entirely different stone. Love the black! You should try a purple too...

Not really. Separated by more than 100miles. I'm really hopeful that this new location will produce more than just this one stone, but if it never ever does, I'll still be there looking!
