the price on the big slab was $7500--and was about an inch thick ( maybe a little more)--they probably use a wet polisher like we do on countertops I got to go out and actually touch it !!! WOW !! even better in person

I would say time wise is totally up to and you like the looks of them then take them out and start the next stage or if some aren't done add some more rough ones and start another first stage --- usually it takes several first stage runs to get enough for the next stage --if they are all beach stones to start with you might be able to move all them at once --hope this helps --oh, you can always take some back a stage later if needed

Sorry guys, you're way to late---- it's already at my house getting smoothed out ! Thanks for the advice tho. I'm using some diamond flat laps on it-- tried to do it on the machine but that outer rim is crumbly so am doing it by hand but using the diamond laps-- it's taking awhile because they are deep but it is getting there ----snowdog

you didn't say what kind or how much you wanted cut --- several members on here have cut/sliced for other members -- the "deal" being worked out by the two parties --sometimes free & postage , other times maybe a slab or two , or half/half ,etc. So, what you got ? (pics would help ) ;D think usually the going price is at least $.50 per square inch for commerical cutters ( to pay for diamond blade & wear & time )

;Dsounds like you now see what is happening !--- will prob be okay for awhile, until it gets some more crud in the threads or he puts a bigger , harder rock in there and the blade pressure is equal to the clamp/spring pressure and will stall again if you do clamp it shut with a vise grip just be careful that it doesn't stall the blade and make the belt/motor burn up ( that's why I put it at the back end of the clamp ,so it can still open ,but does put just a little more pressure on it) I've tried tightening the spring more but that doesn't seem to give me the pressure I need

makes the best pic crust too!! ;D when my grandmother use to butcher a hog, she would grind, stuff (real hog casing), and fry up all the sausage, then can it in glass jars and fill them with the grease & seal them --all you had to do then was warm it up ( and had plenty of grease to fry the taters in ! ;D ---always had a 10 gallon crock of lard in the basement, just in case also remember helping with the lye soap-- would burn (acid) your hands if you messed with it too much when you were making it back then , food was ripe before you picked it and had the natural sugars -- not this store bought stuff of today that tastes like cardboard !! still make my own applebutter sometimes but have learned to cook it in the oven overnight instead of having to stir it all day long

ASI ---- think that is for a single hopper --- (I have some of these, used)--- if you press select to buy, it says it weighs @7# for shipping -- I just weighed one of mine and it weighs 5 & 3/4 without the lid, so boxed & lid would prob be 7 # --I will say they are heavy duty tho. the casting is about 3/4" thick and the vinyl lining is about another 3/4" -- some of mine are from the mid 60's and they still are just fine ! ( don't know how many years it would take to wear one out ;D --- I have bought 2 of the 50# hoppers in the last couple years ( only 50 years old),but, they don't have the outer al casting--they are just thick rubber/vinyl ( they were $230, which is more than the whole tumbler was back in the mid 60's (( $193)) -- I too would like to find a cheaper belt that would hold up as long as the hoppers ! the last ones I bought from DP only lasted a day --they came apart on the seam where they were glued/melted together to form the circle

Phil -- I can't "push" mine forward either--- think it's more like just the pointed edges are rounded off on the clamps and when the friction gets too much they open just enough for the threaded rod to jump over the rounded part to the next thread -- like drilling thu a knot in a piece of wood ( you only need a 1/2# of pressure until you get to the knot , then you sit there and spin in the same spot or you apply a little more pressure to get thu) I put the vise grips toward the back on the clamp so it can still open but is a little harder to spread it -- I've tried putting more tension on the spring that holds them together but that doesn't seem to make the difference I need --- put on a new 303 blade and I don't need the vise grips for awhile --got sharp little diamonds chewing out the rock then ;D

I have a 18" lewaco that does that to me too -- usually I find it's the clamp for the drive ( even tho it looks like good threads the edges are worn and being spring loaded , they will slip over the threaded rod ) mine are reversible so I turn them over or sometimes put a small vise grip pliers on the clamp so it can't push apart too much --then it cuts like it's supposed too -- other times I check the belt tension as it may be slipping a bit when the friction get to be more, and have also dressed the blade ------ one of these three things should get you back to running ;D -------- my next thing is to have a new set of clamps made or mill a little off top/bottom and run a new tap to recut the threads in the old clamps there has been one or two agates that are so hard I have given up on them but when I got a new blade and tried them again , the saw went on thu them ( think the old blade was warped just enough that it would bind up once it got 1/2 way thu the rock )
