I am excited to open it up probably tomorrow just to see whats going on... I can pretty easily pic out 2-3 of the big ones and replace with more small wood or dog gravel!

Just another specimen... My buddy has been breaking and chiseling agate straight out of Basalt in Central Washington... I am not sure how big this piece is... but its beautiful nonetheless!

Oh yeah, I have a nice darker green piece of Aventurine in my 12# load also. Got a little story to tell about it... I have sat next to a nice man for about 5 years... he showed me the Aventurine 5 years ago and since I've picked up a bunch... About 3 weeks ago I asked him if he'd like me to polish up a chunk for him and he was like "hell yeah, please" so its been rolling for a few weeks now. Well... last Wednesday I came to work to find out he passed away very suddenly and tragically on Tuesday night... sad deal... so now I have this piece rollin along... I hope to put a dandy polish on it... I am not sure if I'll keep it in memory of Tom... display it proudly and remember him for many years to come... or give it to his daughter... I have no idea if she is into rocks like he and I were... She's 17 years old... I am inclined to give it to her... we'll see how it turns out...

my "stromatolite" COULD also be a chunk of metamorphosed oyster bed??

I found this rock near Miles City on an tributary to the Yellowstone. Buddy at work has a dad that has a saw and he cut off this side... I just sprayed it with lacquer... its a softball size chunk of fossil stromatolite... imo This is a dandy Ystone agate...cant wait to polish or cut or something to see the inside better! This is a big piece of green jasper that has some really cool little red inclusions... Close up:

Its fairly beautiful... dang... wonder what it is...
so light wont shine through or light it up huh? Do you have a phone with a light on it? I commonly put a rock right on the light from my phone and look at it...

The load is kind of experimental, as I have a fair number of big pieces of wood and I think "maybe" with so many big ones, they may bind up a bit and not tumble too good... might have to pull a couple and add some smaller stuff, but I'll let it roll for a 4-5 days and take a look. For this load I put in 15 Tbsp of 80 grit and 15 oz of water. May have to adjust water, we will see in a day or two when I open it. Here's a few more pics of the material I put in: limb cast agate... And here is a pic of the "Smalls" I have access to. Its like 1/4- from my "patio" area. Seems like it would make a good filler and carry the grit well.

I got a new belt and am running a 15# barrel on my craiglist home built... I will replace the pillow blocks and re-sleeve the shafts eventually, but couldn't stand the wait and fired it up as is for now. One Pillow block gets fairly warm... but I dont think it will burn up! SO this is the tumbler... one barrel doens't have a lid... so I'm just running one right now... This is the motor on this machine... bout right?? Anyone know the formula for calculating power usage... or do I just not want to know? Also wanted to ask... is this motor overkill? Should I just pick up another smaller motor for this other frame I have or So.... I put almost all wood in this 15# load. Almost all is agatized... so should come out pretty nice! I also put in three non-woods... A stromatolite, a marble core sample and a little agate that I dont know what it is... I just know I found it on the Yellowstone... but its not a Ystone moss agate...

I've got a 12# load of a really random mix right now... I threw in a bunch of stuff that I wasn't sure how it would polish... there are some Montana agates and some Pet wood in there, but mostly random stuff that I dont even know what it is... will post pics in a month or so after it shines up. Some jasper... some granites and other "pretty" rocks... hehehe
I fired up a 15# barrel on Friday. My goal was to go with 100% pet wood, but I found three other pieces I couldn't resist throwing in... a core sample of some sort of marble, a little unidentified agate that really has me thinking about where the heck I found it... probably in the Yellowstone River... but its not a Yellowstone Moss agate... it "may" be a derivation or some such of a dryhead agate from the Pryors... and then a little piece of stromatolite I believe...
Gonna start a new thread to show the start of this tumble!

Do they look like they would have any potential if polished? The look really "blah"... still sweet finds though!!
