That granite looks like the stuff I find. Where did you collect it?

Awesome. Good job on the photogrsphy. I will often take the black light outside on moonless nights to shine on random rocks. I seem to always find something interesting.
Thanks for sharing,

Awesome. Video is a good way to display fine specimens. I'll have to look into that.

Took some time out of working outside...90 degrees. Hot for Greeley. Agates-chalcedony. I'm not sure what the difference is. The one on the right has a lot of black squigglies deep in the stone along with many black and white dots (I don't know what you call these). It's like holding a galaxy in your hand..super cool. Also it may look like it has a lot of small pits all over it, but it's one of the smoother one in the batch. The one on the left is my wife's favorite. There is a hint of blue outlining the white snowflakey things. She wants me to drill a hole in it. I need to practice on that first. Pet wood Some Idoevenoites Some more Idoevenoites My son being 10. Thanks for the looks, Colin

I used about a third of small bits of pet wood, quartz, and harder stuff. Thanks for all the kind words. Hey, I'm jealous. So a third. So you had a high percentage of fairly big rocks in there. Can't go wrong rolling them for a long time in coarse grit. These are real rounded. I stuff the Loto full. Often the top gets pushed off, but I think the full hopper slows it down a bit. Then, I add more smalls during the polish. I should perhaps start with more smalls. Most of the rocks have small imperfections that I didn't notice taking them out of the rotary. The striped jasper chips along the lines. When I found it, it was much larger. I bet about 30% or more of the rock has been worn away. By the way I skipped the 500 SIC stage inspired by your two step method.

Welcome from Greeley. Have fun looking around. I used to fish quite a lot and pick up rocks, too. Always seemed to do better finding rocks than fish.

Did you coarse tumble those as is or did you have smalls with them ? I used about a third of small bits of pet wood, quartz, and harder stuff. Thanks for all the kind words.

When were you out in Pawnee? Tumbles look great, what do you mean by high speed Thumlers? There's a higher speed version of the Thumler's Tumbler B. Does great. I also have a Lortone Qt 12, but the Thumler's is quite a bit quicker. Thank you all for the positive responses. I might try to take some picks outside in the shade to see how they turn out. Colin

June tumbles and first try at photographing shiny rocks. All are local from the grasslands: agate/chalcedony, pet woods, jaspers, and other unknowns. Thanks for all the suggestions. I basically do three steps: 1. Tumble for weeks and weeks in a high speed Thumler's B 2. 220 SIC in Lot-O for 4 days 3. polish in Lot-o for 2 days Striped Jasper - out of the many that I have picked up this is one of the few with stripes Pet wood with creamy, agatey center Horney Toad Thank you all for the wonderful suggestions and advice. For the past two years I've greatly enjoyed all the fun. Colin

I know it's serious stuff jamesp, I just couldn't resist. I was concerned though about his use of gloves. Can't caution enough. Safety safety safety. To be honest as the wheel has worn down I haven't used the gloves. I would like to build something better. Thanks for the caution. I approach this thing like I approach riding a motorcycle with a lot of forthought. I'd like to put a foot switch on it for engaging power. I'm not sure how to go about it though.
