Been away for a while, working on our new House and the workarea are the last on the to do list, but yesterday I stumbled upon some cabs I did a while ago. So gave my self a Day of and had my first go at silversmithing. My fingers hurt like h... And there are visible mistakes on my finished piece. Especielly the point was hell to work on and i spend at least 7 hours working on this today, BUT I love it! The cab is a GYP agate and it is so pretty up close, the most amazing stone I ever worked with. Mistakes; 1. I have no burnisher and used a stainless steel rod. Need to get a burnisher. 2. To much solder inside one of the sides in the bezel so had a hard time getting the cab in and it gave me trouble to get the edge close. How do you remove to much solder? 3. The point had a big gap. No clue on how you get that to "fold" nice? Advices appreciated

I have a 3 gallon bucket of material I bought from Gene several years back that I've never been able to cut. I tried cutting one or two pieces, but quickly learned that I did not have the proper knowledge to keep from destroying the material. So the bucket is sitting out in the garage. Not that I can no longer cut, I've been contemplating how to sell it. I paid $500 for the whole bucket. If you're interested, I can try and take pics, but as these are chunks and rough, not slabs, the sparkles don't really show up in a photo, and there is no telling what is actually inside any of them. I see lots of color what I get them wet and take them out in the sun, if that helps. He sent many "nuts" and etc.. I'd be happy just to get my money back if you're at all interested. I can't guarantee what you'll find at all, I can't read this material like I can other stones. Pm me if you need more info. Now you are scaring me, never thought of that they would be difficult to cut. Unfurtunally rules and fees probits from buying for more than 200$ outside of Europe and I'm having second thoughts to buying such an expensive material with the limited skills and experience i got so far. But thanks for the offer Phil, I really appreciate.

E bay seller Oubla has killer material, but usually only sells in larger parcels. I have bought from him in the past and can attest to both his quality and reputation. follow him on facebook under Gene McDevit for updates on when he is listing parcels. They tend to sell quickly Thanks a lot radioI'll stalk him and hope I'll get lucky😆😂

Might be a stupid question, but if you have a Vibe why not do the "normal" Way (1.fase in tumbler and the rest in Vibe) It seems like 10-14 Day + for the AO in tumbler is just adding more time before you finish the rocks. Do you get better results, is it cheaper or ?? Sorry but the stupid newbie dane just dont get it, but love the shine😃 Mona, your questions are totally logical. First, those that do not have a vibe can skip 3-5 weeks with 220-500-1000 steps using a single grit AO 80 in 10 days. Saves 3 clean outs and uses less grit. And shear laziness, no interest in running steps in the 14 pound vibe with 2 to 3 grits and clean outs. The vibe is not as passive as the rotary, has to have an eye kept on it. But the AO 80 works in the vibe too. I run AO 80 in the vibe for 2-3 days and then go straight to AO 14,000. The vibe is the machine that opened eyes about the versatility of the AO 80. I just never experienced a grit in the rotary or the vibe that would take your rocks from an SiC 30 finish to a 2000-4000 finish. And the vintage appeal of tumbling in a rotary is a cool effort. Most rocks I tumbled were done in a rotary till the vibe came along. NOT-stupid newbie Dane Thanks jamesp now I'm with you. New to the Vibe and only run 2 batches but yes it's clearly more attention seeking😄 Need to try the AO80 in the Vibe, a relative of mine sandblasts and paints cars so i have unlimited access to sandblasting material. Never thought of using it in the Vibe. Thanks for taking the time to explain👍

I have set my heart on the boulder opal from koroit and been lurking on eBay, but I'm a bit unsure about the prices and former bad experiences have keept me from buying such an expensive material. So do you know any seller with fair prices and great material that ships overseas please let me know I would really appreciate your advice

I Think this is an amazing forum with amazing teachers/friends/inspirators! At first I was pleasent surpriced to how well functioned this forum was, I have other hobbies where you certanly dont see that kind of kindness, but new to the rock hobbie I guessed that maybe that was just the Way all rock hounds were. I have since learned that it's not the case and that this forum is truly unique😃❤️ I have many idols here, Bikerrandy for his posts on tumbling massproduction cabs and the triplet posts, Tommy and rockjunquie for their amazing cabs, i Always look forward to their photo posts and often go back and admire them. jamesp for his technical rambling, Wich i try to understand as much as possible but my only Hero would be @shotgunner for taking the time to pack and send a freebie box to a complete stranger. I Think that is going Way beond kindness.

I'm also on an iPhone and when i first saw this post i had no doubt that it was great looking cabs but those collages makes it difficult to se just how amazing all of these are, so thanks for the new Photos, I'm just in awe how great they look.
