This is a piece of Tigertail that I got in a box Mr. Larson sent me. If you look closely there is a lion in it I've had Zoey for 13 years. I brought her and Karma (she passed away early this year) back with me from California. She looks black until she is in the light, then you can see what I call rust coloring underneath. Got my entry done I am ashamed to admit that I can't see the lion. I seem to be the only one. Can you help me out with a hint?

Okay. Here goes. I've been waiting for a warm day before I could get this done...or wanted to work on it without freezing my fingers off. This was the second attempt. The first three pics were from my first attempt. This final cab came from the next slab over from the one pictured. I cut this SD Prairie Agate out on my 10" saw and not my trim saw. Then I held it 90 degrees to the blade (in the air) and cut it along the outline. I had to do this because I don't have a jig to get a 90 degree cut. Then I hand held the cordless drill with that angled diamond grinding wheel and cleaned up the girdle. I tried to do the initial 45 degree cut for the dome with the drill, and it worked ok, but I moved over to the cabbing machine. I did most of the initial grind on the cabbing machine, but cleaned it up with the drill. I had to take the flat disk off the end of the arbor on my cabbing machine so I had room to work. By doing that, there was enough room between the wheels to maneuver this around to get the dome shaped and polished. This was not dopped...and my fingernails are way shorter! LOL Anyway, this was fun. Oh, and since we don't have a cat, Trigger agreed to "identify" as a feline for the sake of the challenge! LOL

We'll look at that jasoninsd your first freeform... Or is it, because you had a template? Either way it's pretty amazing!

Oh my gosh you guys... How in the... What in the.... Oh my stars. Did not expect either of those cabs! Thank you! I heard what the challenge was for this month and said to myself "It's a Kathmandu it!" (Read that as "It's a cat man...do it!" LOL) Meowsers! Both of those cabs are catastic. Thanks Beth! Trigger is pulling off the cat look of: I am not amused by you human Right!?! Just like a cat! LOL He's a French model...so...he knows how to work the camera. We'll look at that jasoninsd your first freeform... Or is it, because you had a template? Either way it's pretty amazing! Thanks Nate! LOL It's not a freeform...I had a template thank goodness! LOL - The first one I did, I wrecked it pretty bad. The outline wasn't symmetrical and to be honest, it looked like the cat had been hit by a car! So, on this one, I drew half the outline, then flipped the outline over and traced the same half as the first one...that way it was symmetrical.

jasoninsdOh, man. You and Victor both made my day. That is an amazing catochon! As for your pre-op trans-species cat, I will resist the urge to argue that species (like gender) has a biological basis and is not merely social construction.

I will say it was really fun to get it done...I don't know how "fun" I would say actually doing it was! LOL It's one of those things I can say I did it...and I'm glad it's over! LOL

I know that look, I get it often.

If the weather doesn't cooperate tomorrow, I won't be able to create a contest contribution. Just in case, here is a thread contribution: Costello's Crazy Lace Double by Stephan T., on Flickr "He looks like me."

I think cabs like that would sell at that craft market. Plus, it would be easier to define that separation of the cap and stem for my mushroom cabs

At first glance, I thought you were waving a sardine in front of the cat's face! Not impossible. upon closer inspection, do you see the ears, eyes and nose? It took me awhile of staring at it, but I do believe I see the cat head! If so, the triangular spot right there in the middle would be the cat's right ear...
