Congratulations holajonathan on a solid win with what might be the most gorgeous stone I've ever seen. jasoninsd gave you a deserving run for the money with a fantastic 'cat' that was a seriously technical creation, but that eye was mesmerizing.

Congrats. holajonathan on a spectacular cab and a deserving win!
Amazing stones entered into this contest with a not real easy theme. Congrats to all of you who actually got a stone done and entered.

Thanks, Tommy. As I told Jason a few days ago -- if this were merely a technical skills contest, he would have walked away with it this month. His cat is a technical masterpiece. Congrats. holajonathan on a spectacular cab and a deserving win!
Amazing stones entered into this contest with a not real easy theme. Congrats to all of you who actually got a stone done and entered. Thank you. Now that I've gotten my cat theme out of the way, I will pick something "easier" (more inclusive) for February. Nice win sir! That's a beautiful cab. Well deserved win. Thanks. Congratulations holajonathan ! A very well-deserving win with a beautiful cabochon! I won, but you get the prize! More on that in another post. Your cat literally brought a smile to my face each of the 15 or so times I've looked at it. I even showed my wife, my mom, my dad, and anyone else who will pay attention to me long enough to understand the contest. Congratulations, Jonathan! This was a fun one to watch! Thanks, Mike. I'm glad it was fun for someone other than just me. I knew it would get some groans, but ever since I discovered the monthly Cab Challenge contests, I vowed that if I ever won, the theme would be cat related. Glad I got that out of my system. Congratulation on a super win! Jonathan, you definitely got the stone that represented this contest and did a great job on the cab. Thank you, Victor. Your kitty was no slouch, either. Cool material and a fun shaped cat!

I offered a slab bounty to this month's winner. As I am not in favor of gifting things to myself, Jason ( jasoninsd ) is the well-deserved recipient of the prize! I will be sending him these large slabs (posted previously): As well as two pieces of Cheetah agate (jasper) from Brazil, and the next cut in the Royal Imperial Jasper nodule that was used for my cab. The RIJ has a fracture or two (as did my cab), but I'm confident he'll be able to make something with it. Finally, Jason will receive this large Botswana agate that Javier (my cat owner) polished -- from a rough nodule to a high shine -- using nothing but his (front and rear) paws. (His front paws are the feline-equivalent of 0.1 micron cerium oxide.) Here he is applying the final buff polish. Note his intensity and concentration. And all together on the scale. 3+ pounds of slabs ought to keep Jason busy for at least a full afternoon. Congratulations, Jason!

And all together on the scale. 3+ pounds of slabs ought to keep Jason busy for at least a full afternoon. Congratulations, Jason! Wow...just wow! I'm almost at a loss for words...kinda like a "cat's got my tongue"! I said I was "almost" at a loss for words! LOL - Well, coming in second place turned out to be the "winning" place this month! While I do appreciate the compliment you gave earlier on my catochon...your RIJ cab really was the cat's meow this month! And yours truly was a well deserved win! I'm pretty excited to work each and every one of the materials in those slabs...especially with the generous addition of the RIJ! There's a lot of material there that I've never worked before. I have an idea it's going to quickly add names to my "to get" list...and will probably shoot several of them to the top! Please extend a very heartfelt thank you to Javier for me! I hope he didn't do any damage to his pads in the process of working that Botswana! He did an amazing job. Please let him also know it will find a place right at the top of my "favorites" dish (it's 14" in diameter) on the living room coffee table.

Congratulations holajonathan for a well deserved win and to jasoninsd for a super entry and the take home prize. All the cabs were valiant efforts for a difficult theme. Way to go everyone!
