I too have a 4 lb bowl on my vibe. The instructions for mine call for 2 tsp. of grit at each stage. I'm just hopin' that with as much grit as you used that you don't have a big mess on your hands. Good Luck!

I purchased a Raytech TV5 last December (6 months). Besides having the motor replaced already, now the main bowl has become VERY translucent, and in need of replacement. This is not a serious tumbler, IMHO. I made the purchase before I found you folks here, my bad! LOL! Anyway, does anyone have comparative experience with the TV5, The LotOTumbler and the Diamond Pacific Microsonic. Which is the quietest? I've been buying off my neighbors with jewelry I've made, sorta as nuisance compensation, but this little TV5 is annoying, even to me. (especially to me!) I really prefer to stick with the 4lb capacity. Also, any thoughts on most bang for the buck. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Paul- 10 days in 120/220 Sic- Grit changed daily, and grit added every 12 hours. 3 days 500 Sic. 2 days 1000 AO, and 7 days in AO polish. Burnish w/ Borax between grit changes, and separate bowl for the polish cycle. Altogether about 3 weeks. This was all in addition to a course cycle of 60/90 in the rotary. Thanks for asking. I'd also like to thank all the members that have contributed their hard won knowledge on this forum. My rocks wouldn't be shiny without you guys!

Thanks for the kind words Y'all! Jack- some of the rocks are local, others are part of a pile I found in a place they had no business being in. P.S. I was a commercial photographer in a past life. LOL Stu- yes, the rocks were challenging, but figuring out photobucket and posting pix here was a tech challenge in itself. Looking forward to your 1st tumble or cabs now that you have the equipment figured out.

I'm still a newb, but I've been using 1000 grit AO for a prepolish. Also burnish w/ borax after each step. Mine come out of the polish after a week, looking like mirrors.

Shazam! Beautiful work. It reminds me of a roller coaster at Cedar Point. I like the yellow (calite/citrine?)best.

I've started with a flat lap for cabs, and really like it, except I haven't figured out a way to grind and polish "inside curves". Any pointers out there, besides the obvious use of a roto tool?
