quartz crystals trap water also. As these are clear you can see the water move around in them, they bring top dollar. They are called enhydro crystals. George

I have 4 of these infernal things its the belt i would bet. I have went through every one that came with the machines.I found some at a sweeper machine repair shop. They are heavier and last longer than the ones you get with the machine. In fact i have not broke one yet. They are heavier and at first i didn't think it would fit as it didn't want to go between the fan and the shaft but with a small amount of persuasion it fit been running since. Cost was 1.50 high but if they don't break they may be worth it. George

Borax?
Feb 8, 2006 19:24:26 GMT -5
Post by turnedstone on Feb 8, 2006 19:24:26 GMT -5
I have not tried borax yet but will after i run out of ivory soap. i just started tumbling, my first batch in course i just ran the grit alone. I had read to use ivory soap in another board that i belong to.so after joining here i found every one here used borax having already bought the soap i decided to try it though i just didn't really believe soap could make any difference. Boy was i wrong. I can not believe the difference in the batch that i ran with out soap compared to the one i ran with. The feel and shine is far Superior to the one with out anything in it so I'm a believer for sure and i have a feeling borax will be even better. Any one tried both. George

hi Tweetiepy i am a member of another rock board and this same question came up there. I have heard of the plaster of paris thing but never have tried it . But this guy writes in and tells the board this idea that seems so simple and at first thought makes allot of sense. Now i just started cutting rock so i do not know a whole lot about it lol. So this is what he said a friend of his told him to get a piece of wood 2x2x2 cut the end of the board off flat. On one end and take Elmer's glue and glue the rock to the end of the board. While waiting on the glue to dry he got impatient and decided to try some thing else. He then took another like board and hot melted the rock to the board( heating the rock with a heat gun for removing paint) and pushing it into the hot melt glue that he now leaves on the end of the piece of wood using a pair of pliers to hold on to the rock . He then puts the rock in his vise and slabs away. to remove the rock he heats it up with the heat gun and pulls it off with the pair of pliers.the only down side he had with this was the glue smoked and smelled a bit, lol he may keel over one day from this part. i guess you could do this outside to eliminate the smells. so has anyone out there tried this or even thinks it would work i have asked him some questions that i have with his idea, but this board is set up different than this one and will take a few days or more to get an answer. Both of these ideas seem plausibly to me. But what do i know being new at this stuff. So experts is it doable. or are we saying huh what did he say lol. George

i bought a pixie last jan. wanted a bigger machine as i am rather large myself lol. i talked to allot of rock people they all said get the pixie then trade up so i went with that. i love it is not to small i go 220 lbs plus lbs. and can palm a basketball easy big hands. the only problem i have is hitting my cab on the wheels next to the one I'm grinding on ( i get in hurry), take your time and its not a problem. i paid 950.00 for mine at quartzite last jan. they are a little more now but not much. bought some other things with it so you may find it around there if you look around. just looked here he has many dif. types listed some seem high but may give you some other choices( lapidarydiscounts.com).George

the best thing for you to do is if you are tumbling them right now is stop. then order some rocks from some one on this board. the rocks you have are not some thing you want to start to learn with. you can get a good price on here, from one of the members on here or even try Hinkle's rock shop they have a good deal right now.
