lol my collection would be so much bigger if i just sat at home in Ohio and bought flat rate box's. i started this addiction while on vacation in Texas 24 years ago and nothing beats going out and finding them yourself. i just started cutting and polishing mine and that is fun but the hunt is the best part of it. Love to look for rocks too.An outing would be fun. I vote for quartzite area next year will give us time to plan and there is lots to find in the area. They have a great rock club that take many trips out during show there just my.02 worth.lol' Oregon would be my second choice just for the amount of rocks i have heard they have. hi all just to let you know estate sales are nothing at all like a yard , garage sale or what ever you will call them . Estate sales are just what they say. Some one has died and all their assets(or if you will their estate)are sold off at action, with high bidder taking the goods. You can really run a into some very nice collections watching these sales. Some worth many thousands of dollars. If you are lucky you can get some of these for just a few hundred dollars. Many thanks for the link rockds i hooked up for my whole state. George

Up date on polished purpurite. As you said Mel it is soft.It has a a purple sheen on the out side before polishing on the pixie. After polishing it turns black and has a very high shine with little effort it was a very nice contrast to the purple sides.wish i knew how to do pics on here i would post some. Wife likes it.She wants to see one cut. Don't think this will be a good thing lol.I think they would be better left alone like you told me Mel. thanks george

hi im new at this just on my 2nd stage of my 1st batch . i ran 3 batchs of course grind on the 3rd batch i ran some ivory soap flaks that i grated off a bar. wow what a diffrence it made in the feel and shine compared to the 1st two batchs so i would say it makes a diff. i put some in the 2nd stage grind should i have waited to do after for 4 hours like i did after the 1st stage and would i still need to do this again just to clean them up. thanks george

that saw seems very high for the condition its in i bought a 12inch lortone. a well used saw at quartzite last year for 200 dllrs. and the guy threw in 2 big boxes of rocks with the deal. the saw works great the only thing wrong with it the pan leaks, fixed that by going to the ts(tractor supply) store and buying a rabbit pan and putting the pan under the saw.then went to harbor fright and got hand pump to pump oil back into saw no mess no fuss that was a deal . been running the saw 7 months just now needs the oil pumped back. george

If you cut from behind the blade it is so much better you do not get wet plus you can see what you are doing much easier try it it works out really well. George

Add me to the list i bought mine about 2 weeks ago. Can not stand too see it still in the box but its too cold to set it up outside. I like some of the added splash guards some have improvised must look into making one so i can use it in the basement. George

Was looking at the birthdays today and noticed the Name Stonedagain and was not familiar with the name so i clicked on her to see when her last post was. Her second to last post was in this thread the no. 699 caught my eye so i clicked on it. My how far this board has come in less than 2 years time. Thought I would bring it back up so some of the older members see it again. George

That was my thoughts too deb193 looks like a very nice piece of Texas blue (my name). I have some that i found years ago, need to get it out and see how it looks polished. I started lurking on here the day Steve posted this thread. Following this thread is what made me see what type of people are members here. Thats why i signed up in January. Allot of nice helpful people here but then aren't all rock hounds nice. George
